Your UK local environment

1. Choose 5 places in your school grounds you value as a group and take photos of them with digital/ disposable cameras.

Justify your choices as a group: collaboration, cooperation and negotiation are essential!

2. Homework task: take photos of 5 places in your local area which you value and justify your choices.

Disposable cameras were given out to 10 children in August 2005.They took photos of 5 places in their local environment which they valued and justified their choices.

Canefield River

I like to go there with my friends. We splash and play.

There are crayfish.

The water is nice and cold.

Old Mill

There are trees and flowers. I like it because it has a stage. It is a cultural centre.Long ago it was a sugar mill.

Botanical Gardens

I can run freely. I like it because it is beautiful.

It has a bush with a secret passage!

I can visit parrots at the parrot research foundation.

I can see the city and the sea. There are many trees and flowers. The President’s office is located in Morne Bruce. It is an historical site.

Jimmy’s House

I like it here because it is my Uncle Jimmy’s house. He is building it on my Grandmother’s land. He will sell carved wooden ornaments to tourists when he has finished it.

The Rainforest

Exploring the rainforest is my favourite hobby.

I like playing hide and seek in the big roots of the trees!

The trail to the summit of Gros

Piton

I have great fun swinging on the vines near the base of the mountain.

This is Titus, one of the tourist guides who lives in my village, swinging on one of the vines.

Here is my Dad working in his cassava bread shop.

He grinds the cassava and then mixes the flour with spices, raisins and coconut.

I like helping him at the weekend- sometimes he pays me for it!

The Banana Industry
