FULL POEM

I wander thro' each chartered street, Near where the charter's Thames does flow.

And mark in every face I meet Marks of weakness, marks of woe.

In every cry of every Man, In every Infants cry of fear, In every voice: in every ban,

The mind-forged manacles I hear

How the Chimney-sweepers cry Every blackning Church appalls,

And the hapless Soldiers sigh Runs in blood down Palace walls

But most thro' midnight streets I hear How the youthful Harlots curse Blasts the new-born Infants tear

And blights with plagues the Marriage hearse

I feel that the author is trying to say that everything is not always happy in London. He is revealing the truths about

the city and the problems a common man faces. He tells of that the people of London are very weak. Freedom of

speech is shunned on ,so nobody really speaks on it. It also discusses the anger of the political side of city.

Your proclamation promised me free liberty, nowI'm tired of bein' the victim of shame

They're throwing me in a class with a bad nameI can't believe this is the land from which I came

You know I really do hate to say itThe government don't wanna see

But if Roosevelt was livin'He wouldn't let this be, no, no
