The Gujarat Energy Development Agency is a state nodal agency established by the Government of Gujarat in 1979 to promote and popularize renewable energy technologies and energy conservation measures.
The agency’s mandate is focused on:
_Fostering development of sustainable, equitable and resilient energy systems.
_Initiation of change from energy deprivation and dependence to energy autonomy through use of renewable technologies and conservation measures.
_Create energy literate citizenry, capable of making wise energy choices.
_Research, development, demonstration and popularization of renewable energy and energy efficient technologies.
The organisation is engaged in the following activities,
Education through workshops, energy audits etc.
Awareness through public media, school network and other means
Promotion & Facilitation through model units and demo centres
Production of power
THE DESIGN BRIEF
it should be a symbol, with the acronym of the organisation, in English.
The key adjectives which the symbol should represent are,
Energy non-renewable/natural resources (sun, wind, biomass)
Spreading Awareness on the issue
Gujarati-ness
Easy to remember & Simple to replicate
RE-DESIGN OF LOGO FOR GEDA • 1ST PRESENTATION
The continuum is based on the fact that energy is never destroyed. It just changes the forms – from potential energy to kinetic energy and so on...
This is represented by a spiral transforming into a sun, which is contained inside the ‘waves’ of wind. The leaves encircling the form indicate awareness.
The colours are inspired by the Indian tricolour and lends vibrancy. Overall the form is very dynamic, engaging and easy to reproduce in single colour across various applications.
The synergy is inspired by, “the whole is greater than the sum of parts”
The solid circular form in the centre, surrounded by the dynamic leaves and dots, lend a strong radiance to the form. Set in a strong, maroon colour, it evokes confidence and maturity.
A very bold and distinct symbol, it represents the various alternatives of energy – generation, consumption and conservation. An eye-catchy visual, it is easy to represent across various applications and media.
The building blocks is based on a very simple and straightforward idea.
Energy has many manifestations, but GEDA is focussing on solar energy, biomass and wind energy. This core focus is represented visually in the form of simple icons, which combined with typography create a very smart and stable configuration. The colours are direct and easy to recall. The brown colour denotes earth & sustainability.
Easy to represent in one colour without losing the essence of the idea.
Inspired from the pithora paintings of Gujarat, the kinetics of change represents the windmills and power generation (electricity). The circular form represents the sun with rays of awareness, emanating in all directions.
Overall a very dynamic form, it denotes the movement of renewable energy and conservation of energy.
Even in one colour representation, the form is very strong and has movement. Easy to draw and replicate across various media.
This approach is inspired from the mirror-work embroidery technique which is very peculiar and found commonly in Gujarat. This option portrays the core of energy and rays of awareness and action radiating from the core.
The advantage of this symbol is that the people are more familiar with it in day to day lives and therefore has high recall value.
The overall circular form is also reminiscent of the sun, and is easy to identify and reproduce across various media.
