Unit Question: How important are the logos of a company?

Documented Evidence:Your documented evidence is like a diary.

You start it when you first start making your design and it doesn't end till you have

finished making your product. Takes lots of photos, make notes on any modification

and add sketches and diagrams.

My Client Sinarmas World Academy, needs us to design 5 logos for the Design Cycle, 5 logos for the

AOI, and 10 logos for the IB Learner Profile. The best designed logo will be chosen as SWA’s official logos

that will be used for the whole year. Therefore, I need to follow the design cycle in order to finish this unit in 5

weeks and I will also begin to research the unit question.

What kind of logo structure do you want to have?

Client Interview

What color style do you want it to have?

Do you have your own suggestions or ideas to make the logo better?

I think I would want a pictorial & combination logo structure. Because the logo itself is also combined with the name of the product. So basically, it will looks good and it does suit the theme for IB Learner & Design Cycle.

I think, a simple and attractive logo will suit the best. Don’t make it too colorful although it will stand out, it’s not a good idea though. A creative and thoughtful logo will be the best to amaze people.

I would suggest to have a logo with not too much complicated stuffs circling around inside the logo or outside, just make it within the space that you got, a circle or square. Be Creative!

Page 6: Logo Creation

Do you want the logo to be professional or just for fun? why?

Who is your target audience?

If you can include both into the logo. It would be fantastic. Make the logo with your creativeness and make it fun but also using the real method of creating a logo to make it professional.

The target audience is all the people in SWA. But mostly directed for the Teachers, Students, & PTA. Since it will be a important part of school changes, the design must be both suitable for adults and students.

INTERVIEW SUMMARYFrom the interview, I can see that the client wants the logo to be fun yet professional so it could fit with the taste of adult and students. The client

suggested me to focus on creativity and thinking outside the box instead of making the logo too complicated and colorful. The client also wants a

combination and a pictorial because both of them looks good together. Final words: Be Creative

This project related to 2 AOI’s which is Approaches To Learning & Community and Service because designing a logo requires tools and responsibility of their own learning. I will use applications to create the logo and will follow the design cycle step, which shows my creativity and contribution to the society. Creating the logo also required community awareness to seek knowledge and understanding of my surroundings. My own problem-solving and thinking skills is required in this work in order to create the best logo for the school. So Approaches To Learning & Community and Service is the most suitable 2 out of 5 for this certain unit. Organizational work

To make people think that the logo is and the meaning is combined

together, so the logo has a outer skin and bones inside them.

Ease of CreationIt’s not that hard, maybe the creator uses photoshop and uses brush to create the

logo.

It is not easy, and not really hard for making this logo. But it takes time.

This is not easy to make, and needs patience but it is possible to make.

Page 9: Logo Creation

When researching the 2 different logos from the internet, both of them are really great logos because it is very attractive and Case 2’s logo is really creative because the designer combines the idea

of piano keys and wine glasses together. Case 1’s logo is attractive with many colors and you can feel warmth inside when

you see the logo. Case 3’s way of performing the logo is very creative, because the designer made the logo as ‘BONES’ and so he also made the font to outer skin and bones inside so it looks

really good. All of them did a great job.

Materials:Paint Tool SAI is a application for drawing using the bamboo tablet - Wacom. I have tried several times using the tablet and this application and I think it is

also possible for designing a logo but with also other applications to combine together.

Adobe Photoshop CS5 is a application for photo editing, graphic design, logo design, 3D design, and lots more. It is a good designing application because I used it several times

already for designing the Gindo logo, so it is very comfortable and not easy to use, but may able to create a professional

looking logo.

Adobe Illustrator CS5 is a application also for designing logos and stuffs. Illustrator is different from Photoshop because the functions are different. Illustrator uses a

more professional and more detailed features to create logos. So it is also a great choice to use this application

for designing a logo.

Design Summary

I made 15 designs about IB Learner Profile and Area Of Interaction. Each design represents something that is related to the subject. I made all of

them in photoshop and it took me a quite a time to finish all of them in a

week. But overall, it’s all pretty good.

Plan Evaluation

My plan is effective because each design that I create must be at least an hour or more to finish using

photoshop. I listed 15 steps in the Gantt chart to try to follow the time allowed for each design to finish. I can also follow my step by step for 8 designs in order to

help other people to know what to do.

Evaluating Each Stage of the Design Cycle.

Investigation:

Design

Plan

In the Investigation stage, I did research on some of the well-known logos from the internet. Some of the logos like FedEx and Carrefour have hidden symbols in it which is very cool. I have also made a Case Study to compare which logos are the best.

In the Design stage, I designed 15 designs which are the IB Learner Profile (10 logos) & Area Of Interaction (5 logos). I used Photoshop to help me design. I also inputed hidden symbols for some of my designs I get from the previous ideas. I also compared my designs using the specification table to find out which one meets the expectation.

In the Plan stage, I created a Gantt chart to help me organize my time for making the designs. I created the Gantt Chart in order from the 1st design until the last. I also created a simple step by step chart by showing how I did the logos without any words included. I also included a softwares table that I have used for designing the logos.

Tuesday, December 13, 11

Page 47: Logo Creation

CreateIn the Create stage, I can finally start to create my logos. I used Photoshop for my main software to create my logos. It took me quite a time to just finish 1 design, approximately 1 - 2 hours, works for all designs. But I enjoyed making them. I finished all my logos in a week and I also need to do the Documented Evidence which I screenshot while I’m working for each designs.

In the Evaluation stage, I did reflections on my works to find the advantages and disadvantages. I still need to write what I did good and what I didn’t for the logos. I think the reflection process is very important because it is the only way that we could see our mistakes and move forward. So whenever I will find my mistakes and improve next time.

Evaluation

Page 48: Logo Creation

Testing The ProductSoftware Using photoshop was a success

Time I managed to create all the logos in given time by following the plan efficiently

Size I created the logo in photoshop using 3200 * 2800 and resolution: 300

Audience The logo is appropriate to all ages therefore it can be attractive to everyone

Aesthetics My logo looks nice and attractive

Function The logos that I have create is all representing the IB Learner Profile

Purpose I think everyone can recognize the IB Learner Profile by looking at the logo

Ease of Creation It is simple and attractive but is not too easy to make

Safety There are no appropriate images or object in the logo therefore it is very safe

Durability It depends, if the people in school likes my logo, it will be used for quite a while

Tuesday, December 13, 11

Page 49: Logo Creation

Successful and Least Successful Points

Although I have stated my successful points, I still have some points that are not successful. I did not follow all my steps and

time required from my Gantt Chart all the time because sometimes when creating the logos, I will add more stuffs into it which takes longer to make. I also didn’t control my time wisely

in class, sometimes getting distracted, but I still manages to finish it on time.

I have been able to create very creative and attractive logos in a given amount of time. I have designed 15 designs for

IB Learner Profile & AOI. But I’m only able to choose which topic I want to work with so I chose IB Learner Profile

because it has more attractive and simple designs. Overall, I think I did a great job on finishing the designs on time.

Page 50: Logo Creation

Impacts on: Environment & Society

When we are creating our logos, we need to use our laptops which are manufactured in different countries and factories. It creates air population from the factories and creates sound population and water population when they transfer the parts to different countries. It may seem not to harmful when creating logos using laptops but there’s a lot of issues created behind. When people wants to

view our designs, we also need to print them out which results to deforestation. A solution is to just view it directly from the laptop. Without electricity, we also wouldn’t be able to do all these stuffs. So therefore, letting electricity to pass

through every town also causes pollution and harmful issues to the world.

The impact on Society is that students, teachers, parents from SWA could recognize a new logo that represents the IB Learner Profile. It also shows a

visual image so it could attract people and having it memorized easily.

Tuesday, December 13, 11

Page 51: Logo Creation

Improvements

The Improvements that I could make is to re-do the Risk Taker and Open Minded logo. Because the logos are a bit too simple, I don’t put much time and effort into it therefore it does not look as good as the other

designs.
