It will be a busy month of basketball and wrestling. Doane Honor Choir (9-12) will be Sunday and Monday, Jan- uary 6 and 7. An elementary celebration has been scheduled for Fri- day, January 18. It pays to shop Stapleton MARCIA HORA - THE STAPLETON ENTERPRISE The receipts were piled high before being placed in a huge box to draw for winners in the Stapleton Area Chamber of Com- merce’s “Chamber Blitz.” Shoppers were encour- aged to receive their re- ceipts at local businesses beginning November 17 during Stapleton’s “Fros- ty & Fabulous” event. “We received a lot more receipts than we antici- pated,” Cindy Frey, Cham- ber treasurer said. “Thank you, everyone for shopping local and shop- ping Stapleton.” Receipts, rounded to the nearest dollar, were drawn until $500.00 was reached. Country Partners customers will receive patronage Country Partners Cooperative has completed its year-end audit for the period ending September 30, 2018. Total sales were recorded at $264 million. Local earnings were approximately $1.6 million and com- bined with regional cooperative patronage resulted in $4.3 million of total net income. The board of directors met November 27 to arrive at a plan for the distribution of earnings and the patron- age rates as a result of the successful year. Patronage checks will be mailed sometime after January 1 as per the normal procedure. “Thanks to the hard work of the employee group and the support of our members of Country Partners, we are pleased to report a successful and profitable year,” said CEO E. Man- aging costs and emphasizing performance in all our business segments will continue to be a priority while ensuring we are meeting the needs of an ever-chang- ing set of customers and helping to improve their prof- itability.” McPherson Co. has new sheriff McPherson County Commissioners held a special meeting, Friday, December 21, to inter- view three candidates for McPherson County Sher- iff. Robert McFarland was interviewed earlier at the regular December 10 board meeting. Kelly Williams, Corey Neal and Jimmy Collins were inter- viewed and Williams was appointed McPherson County Sheriff for a four- year term effective Janu- ary 3, 2019. Williams served in the Army just under eight years and has lived in Ne- braska since 1989. He has been in law en- forcement since 1990. He worked for the Grand Is- land police force and in Merrick County at Cen- tral City. Williams said he will be moving to McPherson County and sworn in as sheriff at 1:30 p.m., Janu- ary 3, by Clerk Magistrate Brenda Cochran. “I love law enforcement and being part of a com- munity. This looked like the perfect fit for me,” he added. McPherson County com- missioners also gave em- ployees Christmas Eve as a holiday, and approved the purchase of a 2011 Ford F-250 super duty XL 4 x 4 for the road depart- ment at the special meet- ing. Financing will be taken from the Inheri- tance Tax Fund and re- paid back into the Inheritance Tax Fund. Commissioners will meet for their annual statutory meeting, Wed- nesday, January 9, at the McPherson County Court- house. One vehicle accident A one-vehicle no injury accident was investi- gated by the Logan County Sheriff’s office. The accident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m., Friday, December 7, approximately four miles west of Stapleton on Highway 92. Saige Johnson was eastbound and on her way to school, when the car she was driving went off the south side of the highway. The driver over- corrected and ended up in the north ditch. No transport was necessary and no accident report was made due to less than $1,000 damage to the vehicle.
