LOCATION THEORYThe Foundation Of PlanningIntroductionGenerally been associated with the descriptive characterization of observed patterns across geographic space typically associated with human settlement, industry siting, service competition, and more generally consumer behavior. Location TheoryIt addresses the questions of what economic activities are located where and why. The location of economic activities can be determined on a broad level such as a region or metropolitan area, or on a narrow one such as a zone, neighbourhood, city block, or an individual site.

Why study Location Theory?to understand why places were where they wereto gain a sound grasp on the factors associated with locational decision making and what makes a good location. Late 20th and Early 21st Centurywork has focused on operational classes of locational selection, where specific geographic patterns can be prescribed for realizing stated goals and objectives. Johann Heinrich von Thnen,1826an educated landowner in northern Germany, published a treatise, Die isolierte ( The Isolated State)

Factors that affect the spatial distribution of agricultural types:More perishable products would be grown closer to market Products with higher economic productivity per land area will be grown closer to market Products that are more difficult to transport will also occur closer to market.
