Huron NWR-Hazardous materials building (oil house), 1896. (10047820). The oil house provided safe storage for fuels used to light the beacon. With brick walls, a metal roof and cornice, and a sheet iron door, the building is fireproof. The roof is capped with a ventilator that allowed flammable vapors to escape.
