THE RULES ARE IMPORTANT BUT NOT SUFFICIANT

Children know the rules but is this enough?

Does the knowledge about the rules makes them automatically part of the behaviour?

Children should not only learn the rules, but also learn to think over and to take decisions as equal participants in the traffic, so practical training is needed

Our experience has shown that children aged more than 5 know they should have looked around before crossing the street– first to look LEFT, then RIGHT. This made feel them sure .

Participation of officers from Traffic police in children‘s education on road safety start in the pre-school age as an element of the programme “Аlphabet of safety”

The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Stara Zagora has a programme of pre-school education in models of safe behaviour.

Five topics, among them:

•Policeman – the person who helps;

•Alone at home;

•“The street and my safety”.

Road safety for school beginners

Organized for 7- years old Purpose: to introduce the children to the main rules for safely crossing the street and for safe outdoor activities.

With participation of: Policeman and a young volunteer/ member of Children’s Policeman Academy

Place: in the classroom or on the road safety ground/ in the police

Road safety for first grade school children

The children receive: “Policeman’s note-book” with thematic problems and cases, developed by young volunteers and light reflecting stickers.

The Youth Council of Stara Zagora send letters signed by the “Young Zagora Mayor” to their parents – “ Your personnel example is important”
