One thing that has astounded me in my first term in Council is that 90% of this job is dealing with complaints. Overgrown parks, full doggy doo bins, cars on footpaths, motor bikes in reserves, potholes, smelly drains. The other news flash is, the number of neighbour-to-neighbour disputes we deal with. As a father of six, conflict resolution has been a specialty for me. However, in many instances with problem neighbours, Council is sometimes strictly limited by law with its ability to assist. Yapping dogs, noisy air conditioners, nuisance trees and the like are fairly typical issues and can often be resolved. Nevertheless, when a neighbour forces another neighbour to incur unreasonable costs, well out of their comfort zone out of spite, I am astounded. If we all treated each other as we would like to be treated, then the world would be a better place. Certainly, there would be a lot less complaints for me to deal with. You cannot pick your neighbours, so it is best to try to get along with them . They're usually there for quite a few years and when you really can’t talk out the issue face to face, we’re here. However, the answers are not always what you would like. I’m available anytime for on site meetings to help you determine if Council intervention is the best way forward, simply call 5582 8555 and make an appointment with my Personal Assistant, Michele.
JOHN MUNTZ CAUSEWAY CLOSURES - Towards the end of 2011, Dept of Transport & Main Roads made some temporary repair measures under the supports of the John Muntz Causeway caused by the 2010 floods. Recent rains have obviously undermined these repair works to the point where the whole road has now been closed, for an undetermined length of time. My understanding is that the future TMR plans are for a totally new 4 lane flood proof bridge and a roundabout at Maudsland Road intersection. But this was anticipated to be a decade away and could cost around $30m+. Currently the road is expected to have one lane reopened by mid Feb. It’s important residents pass their feelings and comments directly to the State Government ie: [email protected] Residents travelling to and from Mt Tamborine could explore the Birds Road Causeway access as another option, but ONLY when dry. Please do not attempt to cross ANY causeway with water over it. I’m very happy to assist with the flow of information as it comes to hand.
