Introduction of the teacher
Introduction of the families
The pathway is not for the single, but for the family
If there is a single, it is useful to find a substitute family for him/her
Let’s introduce ourselves
The Local Alcohol School
of 1st Module
is
is• Local: it is being held every time in different
places to reach the families wherever they are
• Alcohol: it deals with alcohol and related problems
• School: training opportunity where families can get information and learn to question about their behaviours
• 1st module: is intended for families having just joined a Club
• 2nd module: is an updating for families attending the Club since sometime
• 3rd module: is intended for the general population (local community) to raise awareness about alcohol related problems
is not
• a professional course
• a medical information course
• a setting where one can discuss personal problems
Because
• it is not a Club meeting

the social-ecological approach to
alcohol related problems
centred on the family and on the community that are
considered as resources for the Health
Protection and Promotion
Pillar of the social-ecological approach is
The C.A.T. CLUB of ALCOHOLICS in TREATMENT

• to show how to change
The Local Alcohol Schoolof 1st Module

HEALTH
“Health is a state of complete
well-being, physical, mental and
social, and not simply the
absence of illness or infirmity
(W.H.O. 1948)
“Health is a condition of harmony, in a
functional, physical and psychological
balance of the human being, who is
dynamically integrated in his natural
and social environment
(A. Seppilli 1966)
The way to consider
health
has greatly
changed
over the centuries
Influenced by
POLITICAL ORGANIZATION
ECONOMY
SCIENCE
CULTURE
Carlo Magno
Since the origin of human beings, and
still now in some cultures,
HEALTH and ILLNESS
DEED or PUNISHMENT
by the GODS
The BRIDGE between GOD and the ill person
are considered
is the PRIEST or the SORCERER
replaces the Gods
and HEALTH
is intended as
Absence of illness
The Bridge between SCIENCE and theILL PERSON is the
DOCTOR
After 1800 SCIENCE
we are used to
DELEGATEour HEALTH
to DOCTORS
The DOCTOR
has become
the SOLE RESPONSIBLE
for HEALTH
We are not concerned by the
we are only concerned by
PROMOTION of HEALTHof the INDIVIDUAL and of the COMMUNITY
CURING the ILLNESS
HEALTH is defined as
the PHYSICAL, PSYCHICAL and SOCIAL BALANCE
of a PERSON well inserted
in his/her FAMILY and in his/her COMMUNITY
Today
HEALTH is the greatest of BLESSINGS
It is PERSONAL and COLLECTIVE
CHANGING the LIFE STYLE and the PROCESS of TAKING BACK POSSESSION of our HEALTH can start and can be implemented ATTENDING THE CLUB
It is important to pay attention to the
SPIRITUAL DIMENSION
of HEALTH
INTENDED as
INTERIOR HARMONY
MENTAL HEALTH
• CAPACITY to INTERACT
and to take PLEASURE
from such INTERACTION
• CAPACITY
to LOVE and
to be LOVED
V. Hudolin, 1996
MENTAL HEALTH
EVERY ONE has the
RIGHT - DUTY
to PROMOTE and PROTECT
HEALTHIgea
OUR OWN and the one of the COMMUNITY
Panacea
“Health is created and lived by people within the
settings of their everyday life; where they learn,
work, play and love.
Health is created by caring for oneself and others,
by being able to take decisions and have control
over one's life circumstances, and by ensuring that
the society one lives in creates conditions that allow
the attainment of health by all its members.
Ottawa Charter, W.H.O. - 1986
HEALTH as
SELFPROTECTION• KNOWING: learning and training
• UNDERSTANDING: improving awareness, recovering consciousness, to generate RESPONSIBILITY
• CHOOSING: acquiring capacity and tools for a critical examination and eventually for a DECISION
• ACTING: changing your habits, adopting a new LIFE STYLE
SELFPROTECTION:
AVOID BEHAVIOURS which can ALTER the balance of the PERSON FAMILY COMMUNITY
drinking, smoking, taking illegal drugs, driving dangerously, gambling, eating too much or too little, taking drugs without prescription etc.
HEALTHY LIFE STYLE =
SELFPROTECTION OF HEALTH
ACTING to RE-ESTABLISH the LOST BALANCE, to INCREASE the SELF ESTEEM becoming conscious of one’s situation, sharing the feelings with others, not withdrawing into oneself, attending the Club, being proud of it.

WARWe have to find the PEACE in our own mind, in the deep of our heart, in our families and in our communities. When we find it, we will be able to offer it to the others.
