INDIA’S GAS AND LNG INFRASTRUCTURE

India proposes to increase the share of natural gas to about 15% of the Primary Energy consumption

India’s natural gas consumption stands at about

7% of the total Primary Energy consumption

against the World average of 23%

About 16,000 kms of high pressure trunk lines;

plans to double in the next few years

35 MMTPA of LNG capacity – 4 terminals on the

West Coast of India and 1 Terminal on the East

coast of India

Petronet’s Dahej terminal under expansion to

17.50 MMTPA

2 more terminals to commission in the next 12

months – Mundra, and Jaigarh – will probably

add another 9 MMTPA capacity

India’s regas capacity may go up to 74 MMTPA

in the next few years considering a plethora of

planned and proposed terminals

LNG SOURCING AND GAS CONSUMPTION IN INDIA

4

India currently consumes about 150 mmscmd of gas; half of which is produced domestically

Fertilizer sector is the largest gas consumer – and largest RLNG consumer

CGD sector coming up in a big way; Government giving a push to increase gas usage in

transport sector and for cooking purposes – 136 GAs in 9th & 10th rounds

Some anchor consumers in the fertilizer and refining sectors to be connected to the

upcoming gas pipelines; especially in the eastern part of India

India proposes

to have a Gas

Trading Hub

soon.
