Learn and Love Living SeasCardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre is part of The Wildlife Trust of Southand West Wales and is dedicated to conserving Cardigan Bay’s marinewildlife through education and research. We provide year round marineenvironmental workshops and activities to schools and groups of all ages.
Children (ages 5-16) We offer a range of exciting marine education activities and
workshops to encourage children to learn about our fascinating
marine environment. All our sessions can be linked to the
National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 - 4, they also support the
key skills of communication, enquiry, developing and reflecting.
Our workshops and activities provide children with the
opportunity to spend time outdoors and experience nature hands
on, providing a fantastic and exciting learning experience.
Adult Groups
We provide marine workshops and talks for adults too. Our talks give adult groups
the chance to learn about the local marine environment, our conservation work
and vital research at Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre. We also offer fun and
engaging corporate day packages designed to meet your business needs and get
your team out of the office and into nature.
Our talks, workshops and corporate days can be tailored to your interests
and requirements, please contact our Living Seas Awareness Officer to
discuss.
Activities and Workshops
1. Seashore Safari
Our Seashore Safari workshops allowchildren to gain hands on experience with thefascinating marine life found along the welshcoastline.
The workshop will start with an introduction, health and
safety talk in our Discovery Room; students will be provided
with equipment and identification guides. We will then take
an adventure along the rock pools and sandy shore which
makes up our coastline, searching for marine creatures and
plants along the way. Using printed guides children will learn
how to identify what they find.
Fun games and discussions will be used to learn about
different species and habitats along our coastline and how
they adapt to their environment.
2. Who eats who?
The ‘who eats who’ workshop allowsstudents to learn about marine food chains.
Discussions will be held around different marine species,
what they eat and what eats them! Students will learn
about the difference between predator and prey with fun
games and activities. Children will also have the opportunity
to discover which species live in our aquarium and decide
where they fit within the food chain.
This workshop can be linked to a Seashore Safari for the
opportunity to gain a hands on experience with some of the
species discussed during the session.

different types of marine litter and its impacts on the marine
environment, and how we can all do our bit to help keep the
marine environment clean.

will head out onto our local beaches armed with bin bags,
litter pickers and gloves. Children will learn how to record
the litter found into different categories, and talks will be
held about where it may have come from and what impact it
may have. The session will end with a recycled sea creature
craft activity in our Discovery Room.
4. Underwater Investigation
Take a trip under the sea without getting wet!
Learn about and discuss different marine habitats and
species found locally and from around the world. Focussing
on a selection of local species we will discuss their habitats,
adaptions, life cycles and food chains. Students will also
have the opportunity to have a go on our new 360 degree
virtual reality experience, Cardigan Bay Sea Quest, where
they can explore the underwater world of Cardigan Bay.
The workshop will end with a craft activity in our Discovery

5. Become a Dolphin Detective
Cardigan Bay is the best place to spot bottlenose dolphins in the UK.
This workshop allows students to become dolphin detectives and help undertake our
important research. The session will start with discussions and games to allow the student to
learn about marine mammals. We will then head out to New Quay Harbour with surveys forms
where participants will have the opportunity to become marine
researches. Students will learn how we undertake our research and
have the chance to spot dolphins for themselves. The session
will end with a craft activity in our Discovery Room, where
children will have the chance to make their own dolphin craft
to take home.
