Dear Partners from the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry, Dear Friends, It is a real pleasure for us to invite you, on behalf of the Boards of the iLDLT and SHBPS of the RBSS , to the biennial iLDLT meeting which will take place on Friday October 15 and Saturday 16 2021 in Hotel Le Plaza in Brussels . This event will be organized in collaboration with the Belgian Section of Hepato-Bilo-Pancreatic Surgery (BSHBPS) of the Royal Belgian Society for Surgery (RBSS). Indeed, the XXIst annual, Postgraduate Course of the BHBPS has been officially integrated in the iLDLT Congress. The biennial iLDLT meeting follows the very successful previous ones, which took place twice in Seoul (S.Kr) and once in Dallas (US) and Kaohsiung (Tw). As the Western world still hesitates to embrace this therapeutic modality, the iLDLTG council found it opportune to “export” the congress to Europe. The program focuses on the spectacular technical advances that have been made during the last two decades in this field of transplantation as well as on the cross-fertilization between living donor liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. The sessions dedicated to hepatobiliary oncology (eg. which patient to resect, which one to transplant) and to advanced liver surgery (e.g. in vivo and ex-vivo liver surgery) and modern surgical technology (e.g. laparoscopic and robotic liver surgery) clearly illustrate this idea. All lectures, including best of best video-lectures, will be given by national and international speakers. The addressed topics have been chosen in such a way that they will foster the interest of the non-transplant surgical community too. Younger colleagues will be able to present in two sessions the ten best abstracts. Allied Health Professionals, transplant coordinators, surgical scrub nurses and surgical nurses are also welcomed. The congress aims at capturing the interest of both transplant and non-transplant communities in order to foster progress in the treatment of benign and malignant hepatobiliary diseases. These progresses are based on “versatility”, the key to be successful in complex surgical procedures and decision-making processes! The arching theme chosen for the 2021 meeting is therefore “Excellence through versatility”. During this two-day meeting, many of the world’s most renowned Western and Eastern leaders in the fields of (living donor) liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery will raise the interest for, and the scientific content of this meeting. A unique opportunity not to miss! The location of the meeting, Le Plaza Hotel, is easily accessible and offers to the medical and pharmaceutical industry a large exhibition hall allowing you to have easy contact with the surgical community in a friendly environment. The iLDLTG Council and the board of the BSHBPS are very confident that you will appreciate the location as well as design and content of the meeting. Hoping to see you at the Brussels Le Plaza Hotel in October 2021. We remain, very sincerely yours, also on behalf of the boards of the SHBPS of the RBSS and the iLDLT. Prof. em . The aims of the joined iLDLT-BSHBPS meeting are as follows:
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
This meeting aims at continuously improving knowledge, skills and experience of surgeons in their
different fields of expertise by raising the quality and attractivity of the program. The target audience
for the meeting includes all professionals involved in clinical surgical care and research as well as all
heath care allied professionals involved in liver surgery and transplantation.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
• Inform the delegates about the latest trends in liver transplantation and advanced liver surgery.
• Discuss present and upcoming changes in these fields of surgery.
• Present expert work and selected topics for focused discussions guided and instructed by
international and national key opinion leaders.
• Make more visible the role of surgery in daily clinical practice and research especially in the field
of hepatobiliary oncology.
PROMOTION OF ACTIVE LEARNING AND LEARNER ENGAGEMENT
A good organization is based on a close collaboration between the iLDLT, the SHBPS of the RBSS and
the medical and pharmaceutical industry. The success of this event is directly dependent of the
investment of each part.
In order to have a smoothly running event, the following code of collaboration is proposed:
• a respect of the scientific meetings is mandatory; no other activity should be organized during
the meeting
• during the Brussels City Hall Reception on Friday evening, all partners are welcome to
participate to this event
• all booths have to be dismantled Saturday at 4 pm.
Adhesion to all these measures will guarantee respect between the many stakeholders involved in the
meeting. We thank all partners for their understanding and cooperation.
