Royal Danish Academy of MusicRosenørns Allé , FrederiksbergYangqin
professor and Director of Music Confucius Institute at the Central
Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Liu Yuening, will give a lecture
on the artistic charm of the Yangqin - the history and application
of the folk instrument.
The Yangqin ( Chinese Hammer Dulcimer) was introduced to China
years ago, now it is a localized and one of the popular traditional
instruments in China. The currently generally used Yangqin in China
is composed of four bridges, over strings and a single stand, the
vocal range of which covers almost four octaves, it has complete
semitones ex-cept the lack of three and half tones of the lowest
tone. It is played by knocking and plucking strings with the
hammer-ing tool called Qin Zhu which is made of bamboo.

YU HONGMEI, ERHUWednesday, May st, .-. Room , the Royal Danish
Academy of MusicRosenørns Allé , FrederiksbergYu Hongmei, Dean of
the Traditional Instruments Department of Central Conservatory of
Music, will briefly introduce the history, development, structure
and musical features of the Erhu.
The Erhu has a drum resonator made of wood, one side of which is
covered by python skin. Two metal strings stretch from the pegs to
the drum resonator. When tuning strings strings, the inner string
is tuned to d and outer string is tuned to a, the interval of the
two strings is a fifth. Erhu has abundant playing techniques
including vibrato, natural harmonic, artificial harmonic, trille,
portamento by finger pad and pizzicato by left hand and martele,
spiccato, tremble and ricochet by right hand. Playing of Erhu needs
two hands’ cooperation.

Gade , FrederiksbergPipa professor, Zhang Hongyan, will give a
lecture on the origin and development of the Pipa as well as
appreciation and beauty of Pipa classics.
The Chinese Lute (Pipa or Piba) is a -year-old instrument, the
earliest record of which was found in the historical data of Han
Dynasty. It is an instrument played on the horseback, to pluck
forward is called “pi” and to pluck backward is called “ba”,
therefore, it is called “Piba”.

Bamboo Flute known as the Dizi.
The Bamboo Flute (Dizi) s a widely spread wind instrument of the
Han nationality of China. The Dizi flute has rich musical
expressions, it can play long and high-pitched sound as well as
bold and broad tones; it can play lively magnif-icent dance music
as well as tender and graceful minors. Except for its expression
for graceful medolies, it can also play various sounds of nature,
like birds’ twitters.

Danish Academy of Music. Rosenørns Allé , FrederiksbergZhou wang,
professor of the guzheng or guzheng as it is also known, will give
a lecture on the sound and rythm of the guzheng and explain the
link between the instrument and the art of Chinese calligrapy and
language.
The Chinese -string Zither (Guzheng) is one of the oldest
plucked instruments in China and an instru-ment of the Han
nationality widely favored by people, which has a history of
years.In recent decades, the playing techniques of Zheng have been
developing continuously. Except for the right-hand-plucks and
left-hand-stops traditional technique, to play with both hands has
become a new feature of guzheng. The innovation of new techniques
has rendered guzheng the ancient and traditional instrument more
glamour.

Lecturer, Zhao Xiaoxia, will briefly introduce the history of the
Guqin (-stringed zither) and explain further the playing
techniques, score-recording and artistic features of the Guqin. She
will also present ways to start learning the Guqin.
The -string Zither (Guqin) is the oldest plucked stringed
instrument in China, it was called “qin” originally and up to now
is -year-old. The Guqin has a wide vocal range and strong
expressions. Its score-recording techniques are -year-old. kinds of
scores can be found today among the Guqin documents handed down to
now, which cover over one thousant different melodies and
scores.
