About 10 months after the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami disaster which devastated much of the coastline and surrounding areas of Northern Japan I read an open letter sent by Joni.Joni is an American who lives with her family near Tono in Iwate and although her family and home had survived, much of her community had taken a battering and her town had put up temporary housing for the tsunami survivors. Her letter details the conditions the survivors are living in, many have had little or no financial support from the government and not much from the large charities has come through. She notes that many of the survivors are in need of winter clothing as the temperature has dropped and those from the coast are not used to such cold conditions.Myself and many other people rallied round and sent Joni clothes and other items for her to distribute. You can read an interview with Joni here. She wrote back telling me how happy people were just to get a new sweater or trousers that fit and small gifts of tea or cookies were much appreciated. It got me thinking that for many of these people, for them to receive a letter just to let them know that we are still thinking of them is as important as warm clothes and physical comfort.
Please read the instructions carefully, I hope I have provided all the information that you need. If you have any questions you can leave them on the blog post or send me an email [email protected]

Jo will send you her mailing address. In the meantime put your letter & little house in a ziplock bag (this will make it easier for Joni to distribute as the letter and house will be kept together). Scribble a quick note with your name and email address so that I can let you know when the house arrives.
Write the Jo’s address on the envelope and please write Little House Project on the envelope too and then pop it in the post.
