Volunteers are needed in a number of different capacities including, but not limited to, festival and parade set-up, manning drink stations, helping compile race results, passing out awards, helping with Aid station, and errand running. For more information, or if you or your group is interested in helping with these events, check out their website . HEALTH IN THE CITY FUNDRAISER The Epilepsy Association, in partnership with Neighborhood Health Services, welcomes you to join us for our, “Health in the City” fundraiser. Our exciting event will be held tomorrow, November 10, 2011 from 6pm–10pm at the Monroe Street Conference Center (2714 Graves Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303). We will have a silent auction packed with fun for the entire family as well as live music. Please contact Myriah Harper at [email protected] or Mathias Sweet at (850) 513-3272 for tickets and more information. LIGHT THE NIGHT ON LANGFORD GREEN The Light The Night (LTN) Walk at FSU Campus will be held on Langford Green this year. The LTN Walk benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in the battle against blood cancer. The walker check-in and pre-event festivities will begin tomorrow, November 10 at 5:30pm. There will be food and refreshments, as well as games and entertainment for participants to enjoy. The 2-mile walk around campus will begin at dusk (around 6:30pm). If you wish to volunteer, contact Angela Mullins at [email protected] . 2012 ACC STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE The Center for Leadership and Civic Education is now accepting participant applications for the 2012 ACC Student Leadership Conference. This year’s conference will take place in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the University of North Carolina from Friday, February 17 to Sunday, February 19. The 2012 ACC Leadership Conference is a threeday leadership learning opportunity for students to engage with peers across the Atlantic Coast Conference. Over the course of the conference, students will learn through interactive and dynamic sessions, keynotes, and handson group activities to apply the Social Change Model of Leadership to campus life and personal passions. This year’s conference theme centers on The Ethics of Globalization with a special focus on water. Click here for applications. All applications are due by Monday, November 29 at 11:59pm to Nathan Bunch at [email protected] . RSO SPACE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE The Center for Leadership & Civic Education has space available for new registered student organizations that would like to be housed here. Applications can be picked up and turned in to the Center located in the Dunlap Student Success Building. All applications are due by Friday, November 18 at 5pm. The Roberts Elementary School is having their annual Fall Festival from 3pm to 7pm tomorrow, November 10. They need a group of 5 people (working in shifts) from 12 noon (set-up) through 7:30pm (tear-down); however, they welcome any and all hands available. Peak needs will be between 3pm to 7pm. For more information, either contact Christi Gaskin at (850) 294-7825 or at [email protected] or Holley Curry at (850) 212-0445. LEARN MORE ABOUT GARNET AND GOLD GOES GREEN The Garnet & Gold Goes Green recycling program provides fans the opportunity to recycle their beverage containers with the intention of decreasing the large amounts of waste and litter surrounding Doak Campbell stadium. G4 volunteers act as the friendly face of recycling to the thousands of fans who attend FSU football games each year. All G4 hours qualify as service hours for the ServScript program. Approximately 20 to 40 volunteers including individuals and organizations are needed for each home game to assist fans. Participants are asked to arrive at the stadium 2.5 hours before the start of the game and stay for a little while after kickoff. Sign up today by emailing [email protected] with your name, contact information, and the dates you'd like to help out. TOWN AND GOWN TALLAHASSEE Town & Gown Tallahassee (TAG) project brings best ideas from across America to Tallahassee to build on relationships between towns and their colleges. They will be holding an event on Thursday, November 10. The event will feature the Vice President for Student Affairs for Virginia Tech and the Assistant City Manager for the Town of Blacksburg focusing on “Public Safety Partnerships.” The forum is free and open to the public from 7pm to 8:30pm and will be held at Leon County Commission Chambers on the 5th floor of the Leon County Courthouse, 301 S Monroe Street. GET INVOLVED WITH FLORIDA STATE CROP! The Florida State CROP (College Reach-Out Program) is looking for mentors who have tutoring experience in math (pre-algebra), science (chemistry/biology), and writing/reading. The mentors will report to one of two schools: East Gadsden High or West Gadsden High. Mentoring will take place between 2 and 5pm. Mentors will also assist students in college prep workshops, which includes helping students fill out college applications. The application can be found on their website. This organization is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and conservation using the art of dance. BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB PROJECT NEEDS YOU The Lowe's Heroes Project is doing a makeover at the local Boys and Girls Club and they could use your help. They will be painting rooms, putting up a new fence, replacing light covers and more. The event will be on Veteran’s Day, Friday November 11, 2011 from 8am to 5pm. The Greg McCray Boys & Girls Club is located at 306 Laura Lee Avenue, Tallahassee, Florida 32301. ENGLISH SPEAKERS NEEDED TO TUTOR OTHER LANGUAGES If you would like to help newcomers develop their English skills, become a member of a great organization, meet people from around the world, and learn new skills from an accredited non-profit educational organization, then this is the workshop for you. Become a volunteer tutor. This workshop will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 1 to 5pm in the Literacy Classroom on the 3rd floor of the Collins Main Library at 200 W. Park Avenue. For more information please contact Literacy Volunteers of Leon County at their website or call (850) 606-2644. This event is eligible for Global Pathways Certificate Sustained Experience. MOELLERSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE Florida State University students can apply for a Moellership through The Center for Leadership and Civic Education. The Moelleship program provides selected students at Florida State University the opportunity to focus 8 – 12 weeks of their summer on full-time service at a non-profit agency. Selected applicants will receive a stipend for their participation in the program. Stipend awards may be up to $4,000, depending upon the location and duration of service. Examples of past projects have included working with people experiencing homelessness in Tallahassee, being a camp counselor for chronically ill children in California, working for a food bank in London, caring for HIV/AIDS patients in Spain, constructing a technology center in Rwanda, designing and constructing a chicken farm at an orphanage in Tanzania, and serving at an orphanage in India. FLORIDA TRAILS NEED YOUR HELP! The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is a non-profit organization striving to involve citizens in conservation projects throughout the nation. They are working with the Florida Trail Association (FTA) to maintain the Florida National Scenic Trail that runs throughout the entire state. This hiking trail spans 1400 miles and has been built almost completely by volunteers. Their goal for this fall is to maintain sections of trail that run through the St. Mark's National Wildlife Refuge and the Apalachicola National Forest. They would like to extend an invitation to all of you and your family and friends to come out and work on these trails. The two dates they have available for service are Saturday, November 19 and Saturday, December 17; however, they are out on the trail often (including weekdays) so if these dates don't work for you, there are others. If an outdoor trail day sounds like something you'd be interested in, please e-mail [email protected] or call (850) 930 6369 for more information or further details.

SPEND TIME IN GHANA WITH THE LADYBUG PROJECT The Ladybug Project Inc. and the Bediako YouthAid Foundation will be providing Health Educator Internships as well as Teaching Placements in the Jasika area of Ghana. An area known for its safety and friendliness to foreigners, yet historically rural and poor, Interns will have an opportunity to effect true change. These programs are designed for individuals who seek to take a year, or perhaps dedicate a summer to international aid. More information about The Ladybug Project Inc. can be found on their website.
