Name of the Activity : Keelavaladi Lake Cleaning
Pond, lake and river have gone dry without water, some with water are not maintained properly
and pose environmental pollution through water hyacinth etc. RESCAPES department of our
college decided to take up this issue and hence decided to clean the 2 ½ acres pond at Keela-
Valadi, in Lalgudi Taluk. The nature club were engaged in the removal of the water hyacinth and
other creepers in the pond, 1 ½ acres creepers where removed by the students, villagers supported
our students in removing the creepers and provided refreshment and lunch for these volunteers for
their voluntary service.

The students of Chemistry –A & B helped in the kollidam cleaning program. The
students collected plastic bags, plastic bottles and glass bottles in the Kollidam River
and gathered in one place and then the students carried the julifera
(Ceemaikaruvalamaram) which was uprooted by the JCD and gathered it in one

Around 4000 students of Holy Cross College set out to No.94 Kariyamanickam village on 27th November
2015 for a program Each one Plant one. Around 5000 saplings were planted.

GAJA CYCLONE RELIEF WORK
Gaja cyclone vanish the 5 Districts in Tamilnadu. To give hand for the affected people, our colleges went
to Thirumanangudi near to Valainkanni, Nagapaittinam District on 15.11.2018. The needed families were
identified and the things required were enquired over the telephone discussion by the college Bus
Driver- Mr. David. Based on need the below things were provided at Thirumangudi in the presence of
the Principal, Dr.Chrisitna Bridget and Non Teaching staff members of our college.

Water Tank Construction at New West Street and Antoniyar Nagar, Vadalur-
Kolakudi Panchayat After the Cuddalure flood disaster, Holy Cross College (Autonomous)
Tiruchirappalli-2 Staff and Students had gone to Kolakudi, Maitto Street and
Antoniyar Nagar at Karuingkuli Panchayat, Vadalur. On analyzing the data the
management decided to construct two water tanks in two locations. One at New West
Street with 3000 thousand liters capacity water tank was constructed in this area and
the bore is of about 51 feet with 2 HP Motor. At Antoniyar Nagar of Karuingkuli
Panchayat, Vadalur with 5000 litres capacity water tank was constructed in this area,
the bore is of about 200 feet with 1 HP Submerge Motor.

D. Gayathri of II B.A English Literature (Shift I) NSS Volunteer of our
college attended an adventure camp at Norkanda Himachal Pradesh
from 15th October to 24th October 2015. She undertook adventure
activities and 18 Kms of Treckking.

attended Tamil Nadu State Republic Day parade camp from
17/01/2016 to 26/01/2016 at Chennai.

The NSS and NCC wings of our college jointly with Doctors Diagnostic Centre, Trichy, organized blood
Donation Camp on 25th August, 2015 in our college. On that day the chief guest Dr. Uma Maheswari Spoke
on the significance of blood donation. Rev. Sr. Jeusin Francis, Principal of our college highlighted the
importance of bold donation among college students. On 25. 08. 2015 NSS volunteers and NCC cadets
participated and 75 students including faculty members and administrative staff donated their blood.

Blood grouping camp was organized for the benefit of the school children who studied at
S.A.S. Matric Hr. Sec. School with the help of Doctors blood bank and research centre, (Doctor’s
Diagnostic Center) Trichy. The camp began at 10.00am and got over by 2.00pm. The blood camp
was inaugurated by the correspondent Mr. Sebastian of S.A.S. Matric Hr. Sec. School. Students
were lined up for blood test and were assisted by non-technical staff Mrs. Jensy along with NSS
volunteers. At the end of this programme, 250 school children came to know their blood group.

The NSS Unit and the multipurpose club of Holy
cross college (Autonomous) Trichy conducted an
awareness program on road safety. Mr.
Mayilvaganan, Deputy Commissioner, Crime and
Traffic, Tiruchirappalli was the chief guest of the
day. He insisted that wearing helmet while driving
will ensure the safety of a person and also
highlighted the do’s and don’t’s in road safety. This
speech was followed by an awareness rally by the
NSS volunteers in two wheelers with helmet.
The NSS Unit of Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, participated in a rally
emphasizing eye donation on 8th December 2017.

Integrated Health Screening was conducted at St. Xavier Matriculation School and for the villagers of
Perur on 03.08-2016. Vision Screening, BMI Screening, Disability Screening & Hearing Screening was
conducted at St. Xavier Matriculation School at UdayaanpattiPanchayat inThogamalai. 100 school students
and 30 villagers were screened and benefited by this program.
Name of the Activity : Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Programme
Ministry of Drinking water and sanitation, Ministry of Human Resource Development and
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India offered 100 hours Swachh Bharat
Summer Internship Programme in the month of July, 2018. A total of 94 NSS volunteers of Holy
Cross College (Autonomous), Trichy enrolled either as team or as individuals for the summer
internship programme. The volunteers have chosen Punganur Village, Manikandam Block,
Tiruchirappalli. The participants have done many activities such as awareness campaigns,
conducting village rallies, segregation of solid waste into biodegradable and non biodegradable,
development of compost pits, street cleaning and door to door campaign for 15 days from July 1
to July 30, 2018. All participants contributed a lot for the rural sanitation of India by attending 100
hours summer internship programme offered by Government of India.
