Criteria for Selection of Feasibility Studies/Pilot Testing Sites

i. Should have political support at all levels—local, district & provincial ii. Required information is available (e.g. economic, social,

environmental and financial) iii. Local level partner organizations are available iv. National significance of the project sites (e.g. identified as priority area

under the NAP to combat desertification) v. Global Significance of site (e.g. internationally threatened species or

ecosystem, carbon sequestration potential and/or extent of land degradation)

vi. High demonstration or replicability value vii. No duplication or over-lapping viii. Clear potential for improving local livelihoods or poverty alleviation ix. High likelihood of success or potential for change x. Preferably address multiple issues and causes xi. Pilot duration 2- 3 years (followed by full-scale GEF project

intervention) xii. Rough cost estimates (~ US$120,000 – 150,000)
