Stillman Valley Lions

The Lions of Illinois Foundation recognized Warren Ippen of the Stillman Valley Lions as a Foundation Fellow. The Stillman Valley Lions nominated Warren due to his many years of service. Warren joined the Lions in 1972 and has been a Lion for over 47 years. He has been the top seller of roses for many years, in some years equaling the rest of the club put to-gether. Warren joined the Lions after seeing all that the Lions did for his sister who was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 6 and became blind before passing at the early age of 30. He still chokes up when telling

about his sister's courage facing the life she was dealt. Warren says he will always be a Lion.

PCC Paul’s Update! Just to let everyone know I have finally recovered from my fall and the blood clot I was dealing with has completely been absorbed! That’s the most recent good news. Only problem was that I had a terrible pain across my lower back and had been thinking it to be shingles. Well, my neurosurgeon looked at it that day and said I had two choices—My Primary Care Doctor or the Emergency Room before I went home that day! I ended up in ER for the after-noon and eventually admitted for overnight treatment. I had a deep tissue cellulitis infection. Over night I had three IV treatments with antibiotics. Once they determined my infection was ecoli they narrowed the treatment, gave me a big shot of antibiotics and sent me home on a pill to take for 10 days. The pain has subsided some and I’m able to lay on my back again. Hopefully by the end of the ten days I’ll be ALL BETTER. It’s been a long time since my broken leg in Sep-tember so I’m really looking forward to getting last falls work done!! Thanks for all your thoughts, cards and prayers during this time.

Oregon Lions Oregon Lions Father’s Day Car Show

It stopped raining by 8AM on Sunday morning and the cars began to arrive for the Annual Oregon Lions Car Show on Father’s day, June 16th, 2019. Lions had hot pancakes and sausage patties waiting for those hungry folks who came to view a good variety of beautifully preserved cars. Later that morning, the Oregon Lions fired up the grill once more to cook their famous pork chops and brats. Thankfully no one had to leave hungry from this event! Oregon Lions wish to thank all the sponsors who contributed to this annual fundraiser, the owners of those vehicles who participated as well as those who came out to support our charitable work.

Your Helping Hands Are Needed The Center for Sight and Hearing’s Low Vision Group is celebrating summer with its annual picnic at CSH on Wednesday, July 17 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The day will be filled with spirited conversation, laughter, and good food. If your club has time available and would like to join the fun, the group would appreciate a helping hand from 2-3 volunteers that day to help guide people to their seats, serve food, and pour drinks. If you’re interested, please call Frank Cosatino, the Low Vision Group member and coordinator, at (779) 423-2934. Thank you!

The Center for Sight and Hearing held its 14th Annual Gerald Broski Memorial Golf Outing on Monday, June 24 at Forest Hills Country Club. Ominous clouds overhead made it a questionable start to the day. However, 119 golfers hit the links, aiming for a hole-in-one, gunning for the pink ball challenge prize, and calling out “Fore!”

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the South Beloit Lions for being this year’s event sponsor. They have also graciously agreed to be the event sponsor next year.

Thank you to the Galena Lions for sponsoring our boxed lunches, giving golfers a kick-start to their afternoon on the course. In addition to sponsorships, Lions from the South Beloit, Amboy, and Byron Lions clubs were spotted teeing off between the trees. Your support helped us raise over $30,000 to provide programs and services for people

facing blindness, low vision, or hearing loss!
