Contracted form (Negative)

Observe as três maneiras para a forma negativa do verb to be:

Forma por extenso

I am not

You are not

He is not

She is not

It is not

Contracted form

I’m not ___ (Não sou, não estou)

You’re not You aren’t (Não é, não está)

He’s not He isn’t (Não é, não está)

She’s not She isn’t (Não é, não está)

It’s not It isn’t (Não é, não está)

We’re not We aren’t (Não é, não está)

You’re not You aren’t (Não é, não está)

They’re not They aren’t (Não é, não está)


Note

Para se ter a forma negativa abreviada, basta suprimir a letra o da partícula not e ligá-la ao verbo.

Observe:

You are not French. You aren’t French.

She is not Italian. She isn’t Italian.

He is not German. He isn’t German.


Observe, nos exemplos anteriores, que as frases negativas podem vir em sua forma contraída. Isn’t (não é, não está), por exemplo, é a contração de Is not (não é). Assim como aren’t (não é, não está, não está, não são, não estão). Você pode falar e escrever de ambas as formas.

Lembre: não existe uma maneira mais correta.
