Eggerdruck, a traditional Tyrolean offset printing com-pany of medium size, offers varied services including layout and prepress work, offset, book and digital printing, and hot foil stamping. In addition to that, Eggerdruck specialises in the production of paper targets, being one of only four manufacturers certified world-wide as official suppliers by the International Shooting Sport Federation. The bizhub PRO C6500e (System 9) is used for all short-run work, including business cards and other print products, as well as some VDP work. This publishing house and digital print provider spe-cialises in newspaper and magazine publishing. In the past, the print runs of a 24-page daily newspaper and a 60-page full colour weekly published on Sundays were produced on offset equipment – which Stamatopoulou wanted to replace with digital presses that would handle these demanding jobs with more flexibility. Two bizhub PRO C6500e (System 8) now provide stream-lined and trouble-free production of more than 450,000 digital prints per month. Besides the 800-piece print run of the 24-page daily newspaper and the 1,000 pieces of the 60-page weekly, which is produced as a booklet on SRA3 format, 90 gsm illustrated paper, large quantities of advertising brochures are printed on 170 gsm to 300 gsm paper, as well as various company newsletters and magazines.

With the bizhub PRO C6500e, Mareis Druck has found the ideal output solution for DBL (digital blue lines) proofing. The new process on Konica Minolta’s colour digital press has brought a dramatic productivity increase and cost reduction in the proofing workflow. Before, the lengthy proofing process on the large-for-mat proofer had become a real bottleneck to produc-tion and meant frequent stand-stills of the offset press-es. Up to 50,000 SRA3 prints are now produced on the bizhub PRO C6500e per month; 70 to 80 percent of this are DBL proofs to check layouts, fonts, etc.; everything except the colours. Mostly full-size proofs with bleed and register marks are printed on SRA3 size; rarely, DBLs are reduced in size to fit complete plate formats onto one page. In addition, business cards are also produced on the bizhub PRO C6500e.

This Austrian printing company looks back on more than 15 years experience with digital technology. After taking over a traditional offset printer, Seyss Medienhaus installed the bizhub PRO C6500e (System 7) which integrates seamlessly with the existing off-set equipment and their Darwin VDP application. The monthly production volume on the bizhub PRO C6500e meanwhile reaches 70,000 A3 size colour prints. As a typical small offset printer, Vica Druck produces professional print products on the basis of quarter sheets. Typical jobs are short print runs between 10 and 500 sheets – 10 sheets for example make 210 business cards. Since Vica Druck installed the bizhub PRO C6500 productivity in digital production has had a real boost, with the monthly digital volume increasing tenfold from 3,000 to 30,000 pages. The bizhub PRO C6500 is used for all short-run work including business cards and e.g. self-adhesive labels, which in the past required a complicated 4-step production process. Now they are simply printed on the bizhub PRO C6500 and die-cut. Stapling and booklet finishing is done on the integrated booklet finisher, while existing off-line equipment is used for other finishing work.

Inter Routage specialises in binding and distribution and concentrates its services on two main areas: address processing, file management, publishing and personalisation; as well as production services, including binding of brochures, storage, packaging and the corresponding distribution services. The particular requirement at Inter Routage, which is now covered by four bizhub PRO 1050e (two each of Systems 3 and 6), concerns variable data printing with Printnet router software on non-standard paper formats. In total 2.5 million pages and more are produced per month on the four systems. Nord Graphique is a typical offset printer that has diversified into digital printing. Their speciality is the production of confidential exam papers for the French “Grandes Écoles” (colleges/universities). Absolute security is of particular importance for this FTP server-based print workflow. The Bavarian Ministry of Finances handles all monetary and financial affairs of this federal state. A major task in this public authority is the preparation of legislation, draft bills, legal resolutions and directives, reports etc. – such a comprehensive amount of information involves a lot of printing. The City of Helsinki, the Finnish capital’s public administration, employs more than 40,000 people in various sectors including education, health and social welfare, business services and many others. The City’s CRD produces all the information written and compiled by this staff – in total more than one billion prints and copies every month. Based on the positive experience with other Konica Minolta equipment and wanting to cover a monthly volume of 1.2 million prints, the city administration’s print room installed two bizhub PRO 1050e. The various city departments, e.g. city planning, culture, health care, education, send their print jobs by e-mail or on CD – sometimes also hard originals for copy jobs – to the print room. After production the prints are distributed to the recipients directly from the CRD. The Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) repre-sents private companies of all sizes in the industry and services sectors. Satisfied with the streamlined work-flow and enhanced productivity from the jtman CRD/Business job ticketing software, EK upgraded their two bizhub PRO 1050e b/w digital presses (Systems 2 and 3) with one bizhub PRO C6500e (System 3) for digital colour production. In 2005, a bizhub PRO 1050e (System 3) was installed in the CRD of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, replacing older inflexible offset equipment. This official body of the German government is charged with trade mark protection and the awarding of pat-ents. Its central print room serves all divisions, with Konica Minolta’s jtman CRD/Business and the web submission software jtweb used to transmit the print files. Typical jobs are print runs of 100 to 10,000 pieces, of various document formats. Konica Minolta’s b/w digital press was chosen for its impressive productivity and its capability to handle monthly volumes of up to 500,000 pages with ease. Another benefit of the digital solution is its finishing flexibility, including the produc-tion of extensive reports and booklets of up to 200 pages. Leicestershire Constabulary’s reprographics depart-ment manages almost 90% of the printed material for 21 local policing units, all of whom can order forms, headed stationery and ad hoc print requests such as crime scene posters. The Scheepvaart & Transport College in Rotterdam is the world leader in educational and training programs for operational and management functions in shipping, transport and logistics. The college offers an exten-sive variety of courses and seminars dealing with all aspects of the supply chain, and employs some 240 instructors who produce a lot of written information and teaching materials. Looking for a productive and reliable solution for a monthly target volume of up to one million pages, the college’s CRD installed two bizhub PRO 1050e (System 9). Konica Minolta’s b/w digital presses excel with their speed and impressive performance and have much improved the college’s print workflow. Winchester City Council administrates all public areas of Winchester. Until recently the council’s information and publishing needs were served by central offset equipment, supplemented by more than 180 desktop printers in the individual offices. This setup was very costly and extremely inefficient, relying on manually completed job instructions for the print room and pro-ducing extensive VDP jobs on small desktop printers. With the installation of the Printgroove POD software suite, the council has now introduced a digital work-flow, revolutionising its performance. The inefficient handwritten job tickets were replaced by the electronic job ticket functionality of Printgroove POD; and 60 desktop printers were substituted by two centrally installed digital presses, a b/w bizhub PRO 1050e (System 3) plus a colour bizhub PRO C6500. The job ticket functionality streamlines the online ordering of prints; and the printing performance, efficiency and cost structure have all dramatically improved.

The Swiss arvato Services AG belongs to the Bertelsmann Group, and is active in mail management and logistics. The direct mail service provider has the facilities to print 500,000 pages per day; up to 100,000 pieces of mail can be dispatched in a day. arvato installed its first bizhub PRO 1050e (System 2) in 2005 to upgrade and enhance their variable data printing services. Very soon arvato was so impressed with the performance and reliability of Konica Minolta’s digital press that additional systems were added, increasing the equipment to 6 bizhub PRO 1050e at two locations.
