registered for classes for next year by the time you receive this. If you’ve got any
questions, please email or phone your student’s counselor. Lincoln Math and
Language Arts Coaches and their corresponding teams will place students based on

Math Mathematics students have been focused on writing, solving and graphing inequalities with one or two steps. Similarly, they have been writing and solving equations with one or two steps. Much of the focus has been on inverse operations, as well as reviewing the operations with intergers. Area and perimeter of basic shapes, particularly circles, will take us into the first set of CMAS tests in early March. We will explore the shapes made when a three-dimensional shape is sliced and as well creating 3-D shapes from nets or 2-D drawings.
Science In 7th grade science, students are learning about genetics, and how traits get passed from parents to offspring in all living things. Students are loving being able to explore their own traits and possible genes, and relating it to background knowledge around them! This unit will end before spring break, with a project that students will do on genetic diseases. They will be responsible for creating an informative website detailing symptoms, prevention, treatment, and cures, as if they were giving genetic counseling to parents. This will be the culmination of predicting traits and the probabilities that the traits will appear in offspring based on the parents.
English As we head into spring, we are wrapping our novel study of A Long Walk to Water. We have spent the last several weeks exploring issues and topics such ethnic conflict, resource conservation, and the difficulties of assimilating into different cultures. We have also been developing our skills in identifying and writing about themes across multiple texts by exploring topics related to Long Walk to Water in poetry, informational texts, and film.
Geography 7th Grade Geography students are wrapping up their study of Africa and completion of the service learning project called Books of Hope. Digital, educational books, created by students, will be sent to an educational center in Ghana. We are very excited to be helping students half-way around the globe. Next, students will be studying the roles, rights, and customs of citizens in South Asia.
