The patterns for these advanced exercises for ligados are the same as those for the ligado exercises in Levels 3 and 4 of Maestro Workshop. The exercises are written on the 5 th fret and the patterns should be played on at least the 1 st , 5 th and 9 th frets, making a longer, more comprehensive exercise, covering the different parts of the fingerboard. Exercise 6 introduces trills played with alternating fingers. Long trills are easier to sustain if they are played with alternating fingers, and the technique is also a useful alternative when playing shorter trills. Although, in the repertoire, the 1 – 2/3 trill is the most common, the finger combinations given here make an excellent workout.
