“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened.” ANATOLE FRANCE, FRENCH POET AND NOVELIST 03 LIFESTYLE DECODING STYLE EVERY DAY IS A NEW BEGINNING: Rain or sunshine, every day for my dog is a brand new beginning. He welcomes life with a zeal and enthusiasm that is infectious. LIVELY, SPONTANEOUS, MISCHIEVOUS: It’s as if your pooch has taken the respon- sibility to keep your life positive through his/her lively and mis- chievous acts. Spontaneity keeps him (and you) inter- ested in your pet’s next moves. There is never a dull moment with a pet around. Such moments help us re- cuperate and rejuvenate the body, mind and soul. We should always keep our spontaneity alive. LOYALTY MATTERS: The world may teach us to be selfish, self-centred to see our- selves through but a pet dog is all you need to know that loyalty isn’t just an an age-old virtue that people just talk about – it soothes your soul to know your pet dog will always be loyal to you. People aren’t any differ- ent. Betrayal hurts. LOOK CUTE WHEN YOU’VE GOOFED UP: A funny les- son but it works really well (practically speak- ing). Goofed up on some- thing? Simply roll your eyes, look cute and plead earnestly. Most hearts would melt at such adorable goofiness. EXPLORE NEW POSSIBILITIES: Your dog is never afraid to put his wet nose on a new object. Given a chance s/he would take a bite too. How often do we stop short of greatness simply by not treading unchartered paths? Most- ly, isn’t it? It means we go through our lives without knowing even 50 per cent of our own potential. BE A GOOD LISTENER: Your pet can’t talk to you... well, in words. But they do get you, don’t they? Can’t we try harder, since we have the advantage of speech? LIVE IN THE MOMENT: Ever noticed how peaceful your pet is while playing with you? S/he will be equally peaceful when com- manded to sit, walk, run, etc. In fact, even if scolded, s/he may sulk for a while... but forget it the next moment. If we could also let go of emotions that drag us down, we could so much better in life and not hold onto grudges. SELF-BELIEF: Have you noticed how a small breed, say a Pug or a Spitz, can easily tame a large breed? The fear always lies in our mind. We must get past it and go for what we dream. Sky is the limit. ADAPTED FROM TNN If you have a pet, it’s easy to see, from close quarters, how little they need to stay happy. Here are ten simple things a pet groomer Hema learnt from her dog. So can you... EAT, PLAY, LOVE: That’s all you need to stay happy and healthy. Just ask any pet parent – all they do is eat, play, wag their tail and sleep SHOW LOVE: A wag of a tail and the excite- ment of your pet to see you is all you need to forget your pain or tiredness. Imagine if we could do it to the people we love, instead of dumping our bad mood on them? BOND WITH YOUR PET KNOW YOUR DOG’S PERSONALI- TY: Every dog has his/her per- sonality, just like humans. Some dogs want to laze around all day, while others are loners. Is he/she happy when your friend comes over or gets upset in a crowd? Knowing this ensures a great bond between you and your pet. SPEND ‘BUDDY TIME’ TOGETHER: It can mean an energising training session, going on a long walk or just sitting and hanging out with your pooch. Try to make the activ- ity you choose at least 30 minutes long and enjoy it thoroughly. LIFE LEARNING RECIPE SHARARA When it comes to pants, shararas are the party pants of the traditional setup. Both styles — sharara and gharara — date back to the Mughal era especial- ly in Lucknow, earlier called the Awadh region. Among the two, the sharara is the original deal. Paired with ornate kurtis and long kurtas, the embellished palazzo style has been a festive favourite for some- time now. If you are thinking of pants that look like lehengas, you are thinking of shararas. They are only fitted at the waist and are fully flared till the end with a big ghera. TIMES LIFE GHARARA Gharara is a pair of well-structured pants that are cut close to the body till the knee and flare out at the knee or a little above the knee. It’s not as popular, maybe because it can be a tough silhouette to pull off. The flare of the gharara is usu- ally marked with an ornate band – traditionally gota to hide the joint. While the flare is manage- able, some ghararas go for extra flare to make the effect dramatic. A gharara is usually paired with a shorter (mid-thigh length) kameez. The gharara uses lesser fabric than a sharara. Both are embellished with zari, sequins, stones and beads. Sharara is fitted at waist and flared till the end; gharara is fitted above knee and flares down. PIC: Ananya Pandey in a hot pink gharara Some shararas can take up to 8 metres of cloth to get the fall right. PIC: Deepika Padukone in an ornate sharara by Sabyasachi Fashion terms can be confusing.
