Significant contributions from a number of committee through the year – Dave McCann, George Emerson, Stephen McCammond, Richard Mair and our patron, Peter Bendeich - were mentioned and acknowledged. The Presidents Trophy was presented to the 2017 Champion, Stephen McCammond, who competed strongly in all 13 events in 2017, finishing in top ten for 8 of the games. Stephen McCammond made a short acceptance speech and acknowledged some of his close competitors over the year. A full transcript of the President’s report can be found in Appendix 2.

4. Minutes AGM 2016 – Craig Horley Nil business arising from 2016 AGM. Minutes were accepted.

Accepted : C Horley Seconded: P Bendeich

5. Secretaries Report Report was presented by Craig Horley and covered topics:

Committee & Office Bearers Club Membership and Participation Club Sponsorship (Post AGM Note: Glen Williamson sponsorship of the

Rookie of the Year award was omitted in error) Events (high level detail – results within Captain’s report) Acknowledgements

A full transcript of the Secretaries report can be found in Appendix 3.

6. Treasurers Report The 2017 Summary report, presented by George Emerson, highlighted key points :

For 2017 CBASGC operated with a $1,443.49 LOSS which was a result of less than anticipated return from the major fund raising day, the Bank Holiday event.

Membership Fees, which have been capped at $15 since 2002 have been raised (on approval from the 2017 committee) to $20 for 2018. This is a small increase, which was deemed as necessary, due to raised costs for all other aspects of our financial commitments.

The Treasurer provided statement of accounts for the Gateway CU 5***** and CBA 008**** accounts to confirm in hand funds for the club. These statements were viewed and verified by the Secretary, Craig Horley.

The club has been paying a 4.23% charge on all payments we process by credit card. This includes member games and also the Bank Holiday event. This charge can no longer be absorbed and will be passed onto the members and guests if they choose to pay by credit card. The Treasurer requested that the member’s present at the AGM help to communicate this change to their colleagues where possible.

The report/balance sheet was accepted and seconded as follows: Accepted: W Francis Seconded: S Chan A copy of the Profit/Loss Balance sheet can be found in Appendix 4.

7. Captains Report Steven Chan presented a comprehensive report of the Club’s events and results for a busy 2017 schedule. Key Points to note: CBASCG hosted another successful Bank Holiday at Stonecutters, We again sent teams to the RS Elliott and Interbank and again had success

coming back again with some major trophies

The website continues to be a productive tool, with over 8500 hits. Some minor schedule changes and a return to Cabramatta (last game 2002) Fixture cards (softcopy) located on the website Matchplay 16 player format continues to be a winner for the club No actual rule changes in 2018 with some gazetted for 2019 to assist with speed

of play, penalties, putting, bunker and hazard rules (TBA). In 2017 the 56th Sydney vs Newcastle Challenge has been run and due to

circumstances will be the last of this special event. CBASG will however still retain the weekend away at the same time and place, calling that game ‘The Summer Cup”. Newcastle players have been asked to attend and are keen to support this game.

The Elliot representative team to play in Adelaide was announced by the Captain:

9. Election of Patron

Mike Parker thanked Peter Bendiech for his continued support and effort in this role during 2017.

He then asked if he would consider the role again in 2018, to which Peter positively responded.

This nomination and appointment was approved by acclamation and Peter made a short acceptance speech thanking the club for again considering and offering him the privilege of continuing as Club Patron.

10. General Business

The following items were raised from the floor:

o Slow Play – Bruce Clausen Bruce suggested the club adopt a policy to send people to hit off the next

tee whilst their group is putting out when groups fall behind. This works well at his home club.

This was widely accepted by members, within reason – only if groups are falling behind and there is opportunity to hit off.

o Card Drop off – Steven Chan The guideline trialled in 2017 where cards of the last groups were

dropped off directly after putting out has shortened the presentation preparation time considerably (10-15 minutes).

The club is therefore adopting this as normal practice for 2018 and onwards

No further Business was raised Meeting Closed by M Parker @ 7:35PM Date of the next Committee Meeting TBA.

Presidents Report Welcome, acknowledge life members/patron in attendance, apologies and agenda run sheet. The AGM provides the opportunity for the Club, its members and committee to review the past year, acknowledge those who have contributed additional commitment and often financial contribution to guarantee its sustainability, now in its 7th decade of operations, plus ensure our cub thrives and keeps the tradition and doors open. With some 16 club events plus several “special” events offering subsidy for members it is has been another full year of golf and enjoyment. This of course does not happen without the active participation of our members, committee and executive team that are prepared to step up, own and deliver on the multiple activities to make those events locally and interstate successful – thank you. We are also fortunate to receive levels of sponsorships to support the club including financial contributions from members and our life members. Craig will detail some specifics in his report, but would like to call out the long term support of Gateway Credit Union. Through the reports to follow from Craig, George and Tiger you will notice the number of successes and achievements for this club in 2017, covering on course success, financial independence and membership levels. On a personal note would like to thank Tiger for not only fulfilling the duties of Club Captain so well for now 9 consecutive years but also keeping our web site up and running but ensure it adds value for our members and also having a strong year on the course with a win in the Match Play, runner-up in the Presidents Trophy and B Grade Club Champion. The club is certainly stronger due to your direct involvement and personal commitment. It would also be remiss not to call out some other key contributors in the year: Dave McCann – booking officer and challenges! George Emerson – stopping the executive spending Stephen McCammond – handicaps week in week out Richard Mair - vice And patron Peter Bendeich (always stepping up and in to support the club, whether it is via his mentoring as patron or direct involvement such as the Winter Cup) Plus all our winners…… On that note like to announce this year’s president trophy’s winner and number one selection for the RS Elliott for 2018. Played all 13 president events – Stephen McCammond.( all 13 events, 8 in the top ten, includes a second and a average of 25.8 point per game) Well done. Congratulations., will see you a little later in the formalities as we look towards 2017. Chuck

Secretary’s Report

As I deliver the Secretaries Report tonight at the AGM, I am feeling honoured and privileged to have been able to contribute in a tangible way to the running of the club which has provided so many memorable moments for members in 2017 and in years gone by……… Following on with the direction from last year’s report, I will be providing a broad overview of the club’s activities for 2017 with a more detailed focus on results and finances included in the club Captain and Treasurer’s reports.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS AND OFFICE BEARERS Committee members and their attendance at meetings for 2017 were as follows:

Position Name Meetings Attended

President Michael Parker 5

Vice President Richard Mair 2

Club Captain Steven Chan 5

Treasurer George Emerson 5

Secretary Craig Horley 4

Handicapper Stephen McCammond 4

Booking Officer Dave McCann 5

General Committee Simon Soo 5

General Committee Rowena Rees-Poole 4

General Committee Lloyd Rodger 3

During the year, the Committee met on 5 occasions. These were a mixture of in

person and phone dial in, with special acknowledgement for the 6 Committee Members that attended all meetings. It should also be noted that Stephen Chan and Simon Soo attended every meeting in person. Special thanks to Rowena Rees-Poole and Lloyd Rodger who organised venues for the meetings. Without this consistent commitment and support from the committee many of our events would not have been such a success in 2017.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP and PARTCIPATION

Membership Our membership (78) in 2017 consisted of:

68 Financial Members 10 Life Members (inclusive of our Patron)

Patron On behalf of the Committee I would like to thank our Patron - Peter Bendeich - for his continued support, counsel and good humour over the 2017 year. Player Participation Average participation at the 13 Presidents Trophy events was just under 32.7 which was a slight downward trend from the previous year.

Best attended rounds were Liverpool (41) and Eastlakes (37). Lowest attended Sydney rounds were Kooindah Waters (23) and Bayview

(25). Special mention goes out to the 5 club members who attended all 13 regular events – Messrs McCammond, Chan, Francis, Soo and Williamson, who clearly displayed persistence and commitment supporting the clubs events throughout 2017. Our traditional away club games, Winter Cup and Syd vs Newcastle , attracted the smallest field of golfers. Federal ACT (18) and Hunter Valley (20). This is in line with previous year’s numbers and are important events which we will continue to hold in 2018. We continued to ‘hover’ generally around 31-35 golfers in the fields during the year, which is quite a decent schedule for a social club. The committee is always keen to field your comments and ideas on course selection and playing costs to ensure we remain consistent with the members’ thoughts/direction and enjoyment of the playing schedule. In 2018 we had a small turnout of visitors (2) and new members (5) during the rounds and I would like to restate that the CBA SG welcomes potential new members, including family and friends of existing club members, if there is interest in the community. Captain’s Cash This unique revenue raiser is a, great way for the members to contribute to the club, pitting their “real skills” against “perceived skill” and as always - “the house wins!”. Over the year we averaged slightly over 3 payouts per game, which when you take into account the average attendances makes for a solid return for our club. The top sharp shooters were out at Richmond with 5 payouts, closely followed by Eastlakes, Liverpool, Bayview, Carnarvon and Penrith with 4 payouts each game.’ The course at Long Reef was the winner over the field being the only one that had no Captain Cash payouts.

CLUB SPONSORSHIP

In 2017 we did not have any new major sponsors as we have over the last few years because the committee felt arrangements were not beneficial to either party. Having said that, all our long standing sponsors again stood up and were substantial contributors to the clubs viability, not to mention member’s enjoyment. The Committee would also like to thank the Life Members and the individual club members who have generously sponsored some of our regular club events over the year. I will mention them all here because I feel it is important the general membership know who our benefactors are and receive the kudos they rightly deserve.

Life Members (various events throughout the year, in particular the Penrith Champ Round 2)

Gateway Credit Union Pat Wong (Dolphin Coatings) Thornleigh Golf Golf Clearance Centre Tiger Chan (various) Ted Geekie (Veterans Bank Holiday) Rowena Rees-Poole (Bank Holiday) Dave McCann (Glenmore) Peter Bendeich (Winter Cup as well as a Life Member contributor) The members thru Captain’s Cash!

EVENTS R S ELLIOTT TOURNAMENT

In 2017 the NSW team of 10 players represented our state and club at the RS Elliott tournament, which comprises of both team and individual events over two days. As is the club rules, selection of our team is primarily based on participation and performance in club events. The winner of the President’s Trophy is the only automatic selection and the Selection Committee consists of our President, Captain and Handicapper. This year’s event was contested during March in the Apple Isle, at the Kingston Beach and Tasmania Golf Clubs. NSW was strongly represented by Messrs Rodger, Mair, Wise, Emerson, Bendeich, McCann, Francis, Nicholson, Wissam, and Parker.

Weather was brilliant (I am told) which was reflected in the NSW performance from an “unbiased” team member, however any further stories come under either the rule of:

What happens on tour stays on tour , or Tassie Whisky tasting affected the recall of team members memory!

Inclusion in an Elliott team is always an honour and congratulations to those who will be announced shortly by our Captain as team members for the 2018 event to be held in South Australia. INTERBANK EVENT This year’s event was again played in March at Stonecutters Ridge GC in very enjoyable conditions. The CBA team performed adequately in our endeavours.

BANK HOLIDAY The Bank Holiday tournament was again held this year at Stonecutters Ridge GC which presented in great condition, experiencing good weather for the event. Thanks to the efforts of the organising subcommittee, the event ran smoothly (as always) and was well received by golfers on the day. This is our showcase event & a great way to communicate with golfers we may not get to normally interact with, hopefully building relationships and attracting new memberships. It is also one of the primary fund raising activities for the club and this year a field of 84 golfers graced the fairways (and possibly some rough as well ) , which continued a slight downward trend from previous years but still represented a solid rollout of golfers. The Committee also gratefully acknowledges the sponsorship and support of Gateway Credit Union, Life Member Ted Geekie, Captain Steve Chan and Rowena Rees-Poole for the 2017 Bank Holiday event. 2018 will see an exciting new venue for the Bank Holiday event, which we hope will invigorate the players and keep the event current. Keep the date free for a truly great golfing experience. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2017 club championships were again keenly contested over 36 holes at Carnarvon and Penrith golf clubs. Excellent conditions were experienced for both round 1 at Carnarvon and round 2 at Penrith. Interesting results were achieved after the final balls were sunk, showing a great deal of grit and fight within the membership for the prestige winners kudos in all grades. Congratulations to all the winners and runners up who will be named by our Captain shortly. WINTER CUP The Tradition continues ……the 19th Winter Cup was once again, for the 6th continuous year, held in the nation’s capital, Canberra, at the demanding Federal Golf Club. We are always welcomed warmly by the club and pro shop, who look after us in a very friendly manner. Compared to previous years, the weather in July this year was surprisingly balmy, the fairways and greens did not have frost or snow as we normally experience in the ACT. The “Warm” winter winner will be announced by our Captain shortly.

On behalf of the Committee I again take this opportunity to thank our Patron, Peter Bendeich for his continuing and generous sponsorship of the event. PRESIDENTS TROPHY Each year a point’s competition is held across selected normal monthly events to determine the winner of the highly coveted President’s Trophy.

As already announced, congratulations go to Stephen McCammond who, with his comfortable 7 point winning margin, becomes the first person selected for the 2017 R S Elliott event in Adelaide. MATCH PLAY TOURNAMENT The 26th CBA SG Match Play event was held again in 2017 with the competitiveness of the club members coming to the fore as we all strived for one of the 16 prestigious places in the field. Each game was eagerly contested until there was only 1.

CBA vs Westpac PERPETUAL TROPHY 2017 saw another lively challenge completed at Riverside Oaks Bungool Golf Course (ranked #35) In a very tight fought competition, the CBA team of 20 representatives won the day 10.5 to 9.5. Interestingly the team combined Stableford scores were CBA – 558 to Westpac – 575 which again indicates the closeness of the final results across the field. 2018 will see the event hosted by the CBA and we look forward to presenting another strong team to continue the dominance

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

As this is my first full year acting as Secretary of the club, I see firsthand the tireless effort put into the club by the committee members. This covers organising and managing special events as mentioned previously, the preparation of the yearly calendar, trophies, daily results and the overall relevance of the club. Without this commitment from your committee the membership enjoyment of our schedule would no doubt be in jeopardy! So, on behalf of the 2017 club members, I offer a big thanks to the outgoing committee, remembering only too well that our club’s success is also based on the hard work you do, building on previous committee’s efforts and decisions throughout the years as well. Our Web site continues to be a source of information and updates. I believe more game bookings are now coming through this source, so we are clearly moving into the 21st century. Acknowledgement is due, yet again, to Tiger Chan for maintaining the site on the club’s behalf.

Booking is always one of the most challenging roles in the Executive Committee and I feel Dave McCann has filled this role very well in 2017 – he is done with 2018 and started on 2019 already. .

Another key role for the viability and success of our schedule is maintaining and recording accurate and clear handicap records before/after each game. I know most hold their breath waiting for the damage after a good round is recorded, and he never lets us down ensuring the winners receive their dues in handicap adjustments. So a big thank you goes out to Stephen McCammond. I certainly encourage involvement with the club’s Committee, because new ideas and thoughts provide opportunities, which keep the club current and ensure we remain relevant with members. Physical presence at the committee meetings is not mandatory as the teleconference option has been utilised successfully in 2017. So I encourage members to nominate and participate in the management and direction of your club as all roles are up for the taking. . Finally a very big and appreciative well done to all the members who supported the club throughout the year. Your participation, your Captain’s Cash and more importantly your friendship over the many and varied rounds of golf this year is what makes it great for all of us, both in 2017 and beyond. I wish all club members, their family and friends a safe and merry Xmas and a happy New Year with great golfing coming your way in 2018.

CBA NSW Social Golf Club

Captain’s Report Welcome everyone to this year’s Annual General Meeting and Presentation night for 2017 As usual, it is always a busy year for the club:

- We hosted another successful Bank Holiday at Stonecutters, - We again sent teams to the RS Elliott and Interbank and again had success coming

back again with some major trophies - The website has been a winner again this year with over 8500 hits. It’s great to see

our members embracing the new technology.

Attendance…. As mentioned earlier by the secretary, this year’s attendance average was slightly down from last year but in my opinion, it is still a healthy number. I would also like to make mention of the 5 x players who attended all 13 regular games.–

Stephen McCammond Steve Chan Warren Francis Simon Soo Glen Williamson

Well done to those players.

Membership…. Our membership numbers are still looking good. We’ve been around the 80 mark for some time and we are still seeing a few new members joining though out the year. Excellent stuff !

Looking forward to next year’s games…. There will be a few changes for 2018 schedule (which everyone would have been able to see already). The first and second game next year will be flipped around….and we will see us playing Liverpool in January and Eastlake in February. In August, we will see us heading back to Cabramatta for some reminiscing. I think the last time we played there was March 2002, so it’ definitely been a long time between drinks. The remainder of the year is pretty much the same…however we will be also flipping the Carnarvon & Penrith games around.

Booking Officer…. Well done to Dave McCann for taking on the Booking Officer role this year. Everyone would agree his done a great job.

Page 15: (Life Member & Patron) (Life Member)

__________________________________________________________________________________CBA SGC AGM Minutes 7th December 2017 Page 15 of 20

Fixture cards….. It will be the same as last year where we will not have the physical fixture cards again, but I will put a softcopy on the website. And for Bruce Clausen, I will make up a couple of the cards especially for you……but let me know if you decide to get an email address.

Matchplay…. This year was the second year we ran the matchplay with just 16 players. The new format appears to be going well. Qualification for the 2018 matchplay draw will be again last year’s winner and the top 5 x players (who are yet to qualify) from the Eastlakes, Kooindah Waters & the Mona Vale game. The first round will again start at the Glenmore game. The full match play schedule will be noted on the 2018 fixtures list.

Rules On the Rules front, there are no actual rule changes for next year, but it was confirmed this year there will be some changes starting on 1st January 2019. Some of the main goals of the rule changes that we will see in 2019 is to try and speed up play, to remove some of the penalties for balls moving on the greens and to relax some existing rules around putting, bunker play and hazard play. Ok…..let’s move on to the Representative events…..

RS Elliott This year’s RS Elliott tournament was hosted in Tasmania at the Kingston Beach GC & Tasmania GC. Monday’s game was held at Kingston Beach with The Managing Director’s trophy won by the SA team with an average team score of 32.9 stableford points. 2nd was WA with 32.3 with NSW coming in 3rd with 30.9 Highlight from the NSW’s team on the Monday was Richard Mair with 41 points. On the Tuesday, the RS Elliott was played at the Tasmania GC. The NSW team won the RS Elliott trophy with a score of 437 strokes. The Brisbane Salver trophy was also won us with 222 points. The Melbourne Cup was won by our Richard Mair with 81 strokes. The Gateway Cup (best stableford score on Tuesday) was won by Chris Dowell who was playing for Queensland with 37 stableford points. Well done to the whole 2017 Elliott team. The 2018 RS Elliott tournament will be hosted by Adelaide during the 15th to 17th of March next year (Wednesday to Saturday) and will be played at The Grange GC East & West courses. Accommodation will be in North Adelaide. The players that will be joining Stephen McCammond to represent NSW next year will be announced shortly.

Sydney V Newcastle The 56th Sydney V Newcastle match was held on February 19th at the Hunter Valley Golf & Country Club. The Lea Thompson Trophy was won by the Sydney team with an average score of 30.1 to Newcastle’s 25.0. In relation to next year’s event, I will come back to that shortly.

Interbank The 88th Interbank Tournament was held at Stonecutters Ridge GC this year and was hosted by Reserve Bank. The combined Westpac/St George won the Interbank Pennant (Scratch Stableford) with a score of 126 points. CBA were runners up with 112 points. For the Interbank Trophy (Handicap Stableford), CBA were successful in wining this trophy with 345 points while Westpac came in at 2nd place with 326 points. Congratulations to Greg Liversage on winning the Many Thanks Cup with a stableford score of 41 points. . Other highlights of the day for CBA was Allan Kenny winning A Grade with 36 points The 2018 Interbank will be on March 5th at Stonecutters Ridge GC again and will be hosted by Westpac.

Winter Cup The 19th Winter Cup was again held in July at the Federal Golf club in Canberra. The winner of the day was Steve Nicholson with net 74. Runner up on the day was Simon Soo with a net 76. Well done again to Steve Nicholson on winning and another big thankyou to the Winter Cup sponsor Peter Bendiech. Next year’s Winter Cup will again be held at Federal Golf Club, but due to the sponsors travel commitments during July, the 2018 Winter Cup will be held on Sunday 3rd June which should be a little warmer.

Bank Holiday For the 66th Bank Holiday, the event was held again at Stonecutters Ridge GC. Congratulations to Simon Cooper on winning the Welfare/Watson –Mason Cup with 74 strokes and congratulations also goes to Bruce Clausen for winning the Ted Geekie Veterans trophy with 36 points. Overall, it was again another successful day and thanks to everyone that helped in making it a great day. I would also like send a thank you to the sponsors as well…..Gateway Credit Union, Golf Clearance Outlet, Thornleigh Golf Centre, Osborne Strategic Risk Services and myself. After holding the event at Stonecutters since 2015, next year’s Bank Holiday event will see us move to Twin Creeks. Most people have played Twin Creeks before and will agree it is another quality course (it was actually one of the courses for the 2008 RS Elliott too). Next year’s event will be on Monday 6th August.

CBA/Westpac Challenge The CBA/Westpac challenge, hosted by Westpac this year, was contested again at the Riverside Oaks on the 20th Aug and also played on the newer Bungool course. After all 20 matches had been completed and tallied, CBA were the winners with the narrowest margin of 10.5 points to Westpac’s 9.5. Best performers on the day were Bob Hooper, coming 2nd with 36 points and myself 3rd with 35 points. Next years challenge will be hosted by CBA and will be played again at Riverside Oaks on Sunday 19th August 2018. Sydney V Brisbane - The 40th Sydney V Brisbane Tournament was recently held in Coffs Harbour again.

Unfortunately the weather was very good and the Bonville game was the only game played. In the end, the Sydney team won the weekend event with a score of 29.38 to Brisbane’s 27.69. The winner of the Shannon Driscoll Aggregate trophy went to Sydney’s Peter Cassin with 35 points. It looks like Mark Nugent won the Wendy trophy with 21 points.

Now back to Sydney V Newcastle event

People who have played this event over the last several years would have obviously noticed the Newcastle team has only been 3-4 players each year. As The Lea Thompson Trophy itself was full after this year’s game and also based on the past Newcastle numbers, it prompted me to have a quick chat to Chuck on whether or not we should continue this event. We both agreed that it was probably the right thing to do. I contacted Peter Warne from Newcastle and conveyed our thoughts on the future ….unsurprisingly Peter Warne agreed and he also advised he wasn’t really enjoying the games due to the stress in arranging a team. As our Sydney guys are always keen for a golf game, I suggested we could start another club event for that weekend…maybe called ‘The Summer Cup’ and still hold it on the same February weekend. The intention is to keep it up that part of the woods and we would still extend the invite to Peter Warne and co….he was very happy with that proposal. I’m sure everyone will be in agreeance with this decision…..so over the next couple of months, we will work out a format for this new event and notify everyone accordingly.

Hole in Ones’ No hole in one’s this year, so I save a few dollars on trophies this year and so does Bruce Clausen.

Club Championships The club championships were recently conducted over 2 rounds at Carnarvon and Penrith Golf Club’s. Match Play The 26th Match Play final was held again in September at Long Reef where Steve Chan defeated Eddy Chan 2 up. Congratulations to Steve on winning his third Matchplay trophy. 2010 & 2011 were the other winning years.

Long Drive

The long drive comp this year has gone to Graham Flanagan. He hit 5 x long drives wins during the year. The wins were at Penrith, Carnarvon, Camden, The Springs and Richmond. Well done to Flano

Rookie of the Year trophy Rookie of the Year trophy is won by the best performing rookie/new member though out the year. The trophy has been generously sponsored by Glen Williamson. The recipient of the trophy this year goes to Brian Keegan. Well done Brian

Glen, could you please come forward and present the trophy to Brian…(if Brian is present)

Presidents Trophy Chuck has already presented the Presidents Trophy, but a quick run-down on Stephen’s performance this year……so to win the Presidents trophy, he had (out of 13 games) top 10 finishes at Eastlakes, Liverpool, Kooindah, Glenmore, Lynwood, The Springs & Camden and a 2nd place finish at Long Reef. I was chewing at his tail during the last 2 games, but he had enough in the tank to win the trophy by 7 points.

A very well deserved winner and automatic selection for next years Elliott team. Well done Stephen.
