It takes more than words to capture the essence of life here. You really have to experience it to appreciate

the vibrance of our cities and the calming beauty of the rolling hills. There’s something about shaking

hands with the shop owner or knowing the produce in your fridge was harvested just down the road.

We’re unabashedly committed to spreading the word about the benefits

of living in Central New York. Every element of life here is impacted by the

uniqueness of our natural resources and the diversity of the people.

We invite you to get out and experience this remarkable area and encourage you to buy local,

support local and live local.

Local is in, organic is growing in

popularity and farmers’ markets are

sprouting up in towns and villages across

the region to handle increased demand.

Savvy gardeners get an early start on the

growing season by planting cool-weather

favorites such as peas, beans, leafy

greens and root vegetables.

By fall, vendor booths are overfl owing

with freshly harvested tomatoes,

zucchini, squash, corn, pumpkins and

bushels of potatoes.

With the exception of a few year-round

venues, most farmers’ markets take

place during the peak harvest months

of June through September.

DeliciousWhile the area has always been know for its food, ethnic diversity has contributed to an increase of mouth watering dining options.

Khmer Summer Rolls, Spanakopita, Chicken Riggies, Pho, Tiramisu,Jaeger Schnitzel, Golabki, Stuffed Kousa, Masco-Bara....all are readily available throughout the region and easier to digest than pronounce!

The backdrops for local dining are nearly as varied. Enjoy lakeside alfresco dining , a mountaintop breakfast at sunrise, or fi ne dining in a 150- year-old castle. Gather the family for a southern-style BBQ or go organic with locally grown food.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame is almost as legendary as the in-ductees it honors. It’s actually three entities in one - a museum, the Hall of Fame, and a research library. Established in 1939, the hall houses over 38,000 three-dimensional artifacts and offers a plethora of exhibits and interactive programs all designed to honor America’s favorite game and it’s great players.

In their words, the mission of the Boxing Hall of Fame is “to honor and preserve boxing’s rich heri-tage, chronicle the achievements of those who excelled and provide an educational experience for visitors.” Born out a love for the sport and the desire to honor two hometown boys who became world boxing champions, Canastota resi-dents dedicated the Hall in 1989 and have since hosted an annual induction ceremony each spring to honor the sport’s legends.

Military Heroes’COURAGE, COMMITMENT AND SACRIFICE

Local Veterans are proposing the construction of a Peace Park, a place

intentionally designed to honor the sacrifi ces of men and women from

all branches of the military. They envision a place for veterans to con-

nect and refl ect, and where families and the pubic can better understand

the sacrifi ces made by veterans. The goal is to keep the memories alive

and honor military members. The proposal calls for reconstruction of the

famed Tun Tavern, the traditional birthplace of the continental Marines,

a truly one-of-a-kind undertaking. With promised support from the

National Marine Corps Museum in VA, local vets are working to garner

additional support and resources to make the project a reality.
