We take pleasure to take this opportunity to wish our readers, members of ILA, its Executive Committee, Sectional Committees, and all the LIS professionals A Very Happy New Year. On behalf of the Editorial Committee we would like to express our gratitude to our news contributors, readers, and advisors for their valuable contributions for bringing out the ILA Newsletter successfully and regularly.
In the present Digital Age, the role of LIS professionals is changing drastically. The developments in ICTs are opening up new challenges and opportunities to us. A paradigm shift is taking place from the traditional to digital librarianship resulting in the LIS professionals to confront with multiple challenges. The process of content creation is totally is changing and different from the past. A new range of information resources, channels and formats are developed for communication / dissemination and access to information which is faster than ever before. The quality of LIS services and their use is largely enhanced compared to the traditional services of LICs. The usage and use evaluation of library services and resources has become critical now due to the overflow and duplication of digital content which is accessible and shared through networks and consortia. Further, it is also expected that the consortia, networks and open access to information resources have been successfully satisfying the information needs of the libraries and their users. The remote access to information or information resources from multiple locations and especially the OA resources have made it necessary to protect the IPRs and copyrights and to safeguard from the danger of plagiarism, security
“I don't believe in colleges and universities. I believe in libraries because most students don't have any money. When I graduated from high school, it was during the Depression and we had no money. I couldn't go to college, so I went to the library three days a week for ten years.” ― Ray Bradbury

Appeal to LIS Professionals
Challenges before the LIS Professionals in the New Year
of confidential research findings, and protection of resources. Archiving and preservation of information for future have enhanced the challenges and however, the most important challenge on us is to satisfy the expectations and information needs of our users. There are many more challenges which needs to be addressed in organizing and serving our user communities in the present digital invironment.
Therefore, we have to make ourselves flexible enough to adapt to the new and emerging challenges and to develop the needed skills and knowledge to fulfill the short and long time and individual and institutional needs. The Darwin’s theory of ‘Survival of the Fittest’ is equally applicable to the libraries and librarians. It is now expected that we have to develop ourselves as Information Experts or Specialist Information Experts, Digital Information Experts, Digital Information Navigators, Subject Information Experts, Knowledge Managers, etc.
Let us accept the emerging challenges positively, and continue to explore to find solutions and to serve our society with greater commitment and zeal. We hope that the professional associations, LIS schools & institutions, and individuals will find the solutions to the challenges through various means such as, LIS groups, forums, seminars and workshops.
Once again, we Wish You All A Very Happy and Successful New Year. ----The Editors ILA News

A sixth century manuscript of Ramayana – that focuses on the separation of Rama and Sita Script and portrays them more as humans – has found tucked inside a Purana at Sanskrit Library in Kolkota.
Scholars working on the sixth century Vanhi (fire) Purana at the Asiatic Society Library, were puzzled to find that the manuscript seemed incomplete. “In this version, there are just five khandas (sections) instead of the accepted seven. There is no Balkhanda- part that deals with Rama’s childhood – or uttrakhanda. This ends with the return of Rama and Sita from exile and his ascension to the thorne,” said scholar Anasuya Bhowmick.
