In order to facilitate this influx and to reduce student anxiety, the Test Centre scheduled extra staff, arranged study lounges and provided students with light refreshments. Since its launch in May 2014, MyLearning has supported a large number of Seneca staff and students by offering a collection of engaging online academic resources. In order to address student retention and expand their services and outreach, several exciting initiatives are being considered for the upcoming academic year. The annual Seneca Learning Services report analyzes student engagement within the Learning Centre by comparing 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 data.
Report Gains
• 15% increase in student visits/appointments across all five Centres• 21.75% increase in student visits/appointments at the Newnham Learning Centre• 13% increase in unique visitors to all four Seneca Learning Centres• Our Facebook page now has 529 followers, that represents a 52% increase. facebook.com/senecalc• Our Twitter account now has 850 followers, that represents a 23% increase. twitter.com/senecalc
The library has decommissioned the Course Readings (e-reserves) repository as the number of faculty using blackboard to manage course readings has increased and substantial changes to the copyright act have been made. Faculty can refer to this guide for instructions on creating course readings: seneca.libguides.com/spark-CourseResources or contact their Liaison Librarian for more information.
Course Readings Repository - Decommissioned
The Photography Collection 1967 -2001 -The size of the collection is conservatively estimated at 100 000 pieces and consists of prints, negatives, slides and contact sheets. The content of the collection includes a diverse range of subjects: ground breaking at Finch campus, our first president's installation, board of governors meetings, college athletics, fashion shows, Seneca Mile's, famous visitors, campus architecture, as well as headshots and promotional material.
Seneca Libraries is following archival best practices in the processing, conservation and preservation of the collection. Access to Memory, an open source web based digital repository, has been chosen as theplatform for our digital collections and is scheduled to go live September 2015. As the work progresses, selected images are being shared on Seneca's social media accounts.
Seneca College Photography Project Update
Sean Hayes, MI, was hired by Seneca Libraries this past January to begin processing the photo collection. Sean has previously worked for the University of Toronto Archives and Records Management Services, University of Toronto Media Commons: Media Archives, and the United Nations Archives. Sean is available for internal consultation on archives and records management best practices, Tuesdays to Thursdays, Seneca Libraries, Markham Campus.
