Challenges and Risks Challenges
Aligning Priorities Hospitals with differing goals and needs
Management buy-in Convincing management that it is legitimate
and important for Librarian to be involved in “new knowledge management”
Challenges/Risks Librarian needs to be more technical Communication
“Library Speak” vs “IS Speak”
Challenges and Risks Risks
Cost Intermingling of Library & IT budgets
Opportunity to grow Library related IT resources within larger Hospital System IT budgets
Some risk that Library related expenses trimmed with discretionary cuts
Conclusion IS/Librarian partnership benefits
IS Librarians Patients
Libraries would give up some control There is risk, but risk/reward ratio is favorable
