The Three Forks Chamber of Commerce will host the Annual Christmas Stroll on Friday, December 6th. The Stroll will kick off earlier this year, starting at 4 p.m. (rather than 5.) Many of the traditions that stroll-goers have come to expect will characterize this year’s event. The horse drawn wagon rides will be cruising up and down Main Street throughout the evening. The wagon has been sponsored by First Security Bank of Three Forks for many years. The Headwaters Heritage Museum will be open with Christmas stockings for children under twelve years old. These handmade stockings are filled with fruit, candy canes and popcorn balls and are a yearlong project by members of the Historical Society and museum volunteers. Of course, Santa and Mrs. Clause will be making an appearance as well and can be found this year at the Three Forks Community Library, beginning at 5:30. Photos with Santa and his wife will be available through Christi Wehner Photography. If you haven’t already begun, now would be the time to start working on that Gingerbread House for entry in that contest. Entries should be dropped off at the Lewis and Clark on Thursday, December 5th between noon and 8 pm or on Friday, December 6th starting at 10 a.m.
The deadline is 2:30 p.m. because judging begins at 3. Three Forks Fun Bucks and award ribbons will be awarded to the Best of Show, and to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each of six categories. Houses will remain on display at the Lewis and Clark until 8 p.m. that evening. Please pick up entries between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 7th. Absent from the stroll activities list this year is the “Taste of Three Forks” event. Typically, local restuarants feature specialty dishes at a central location. Entry fees were donated to area causes such as the Senior Center or Youth Task Force. While there will be no “Taste of Three Forks,” the Chamber has stated that instead, food vendors will be spread throughout town. A tree lighting ceremony will take place at the Veterans Memorial Park at E. Neal and Main Street. The ceremony begins at 5:00 with the high school choir singing under direction of Mrs. Sue Pitcher. Lights are being strung by Curtis Fletch of Bozeman Arborcare. In total, 500 Commercial low energy LED lights from Distinctive Lighting in Bozeman will be strung and Mr. and Mrs. Claus will light the tree. At 7 p.m., a fireworks display will take place. As in years’ past, the fireworks have been donated by Jeff and Carly Gates who operate Old Glory Fireworks, typically set up between
the Three Forks Market and the Rodeo Grounds each Independence Day. All along Main Street, businesses will be open late and invite residents to stop in and toast the holiday season. Check the schedule on page 5 for a more detailed listing. New this year, the Chamber is sponsoring a “Merchant Bingo” game. Strollers can pick up bingo cards at participating businesses the evening of the stroll or at the Library. To play, each bingo space must be stamped or signed by participating businesses on the designated space. Once all spots are marked (blackout), completed cards must be returned to the library by 8 p.m. Participating merchants have offered up a variety of prizes that will be awarded by drawing of the completed cards. Holcim and Imerys have each donated an iPad Mini to be given away as grand prizes. Winners will be posted at the Three Forks Community Library beginning Monday, December 9th and prizes can be picked up there during regular library hours. Vendors and crafters will be set up in the building at 13 Main Street (next to Kim’s Taekwondo) starting at 2 pm. If you are interested in getting your business involved in the Stroll or being a volunteer, please contact the Chamber at 285-4753.

Candy Cane Lane The Three Forks Christmas Stroll offers so many activities that it’s often hard to fit it all in. Perhaps in years past you’ve been so harried to do and see it all that you’ve skipped over a few things. This year, the Chamber has elected to change the official start time of the Stroll to 4 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. as in years’ past. If you’ve missed seeing the Candy Cane Lane display or if it’s been a few years since you’ve had the experience, it’s well worth your time. The display features several large storyboards illustrating the story, The Legend of the Candy Cane. Each panel was carefully hand painted by local artists several years ago. Tour-goers are guided to each storyboard as the legend is narrated. David Ford, Pastor of the Three Forks Church of Christ, has been involved with this aspect of the stroll for several years and says, “for me, personally, it helps keep Christ in Christmas.” Candy Cane Lane will be set up on Main Street between the Thrift Store and Stageline Pizza.

Try this delicious flavor combination that pairs peppermint and chocolate!
16 oz semi sweet chocolate, chopped fine2 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped fine1/2 tsp baking soda1/8 tsp salt1 (14oz) can sweetened condensed milk1 Tbsp vanilla1/3 C crushed mini candy canes
Instructions:
Line an 8×8 pan with foil and coat lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Mix the two chocolates, baking soda, and salt in medium heatproof bowl until baking soda is distributed evenly. Stir in sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Set bowl over a saucepan with simmering water. Stir the chocolate mixture with rubber spatula until the chocolate is almost just melted. Its okay if a few small pieces remain. Remove bowl from heat and continue to stir until smooth.

Special thanks to the following Chamber Businesses featured in our Christmas Stroll Program!
cinnamon & applesauce christmas ornaments
Requires a lot of cinnamon, but the smell in your home will be worth it. Also a great craft to do with children and can be stored and used again next year. They’ll keep their scent for quite some time!
INSTRUCTIONS: Mix 2 cups of ground cinnamon with 2 cups of smooth applesauce. Some people prefer to add a little bit of Elmer’s school glue, but they’ll stick together nicely without it. If your mixture seems watery, add a bit more cinnamon until the consistency is similar to cookie dough.
Roll out to about 1/4” thickness and cut using your favorite cookie cutter shapes. Sticking to smaller shapes is best. Transfer the cut out shapes to a cookie sheet and use a toothpick to create a hole at the top of each. Be sure to widen the hole a bit as the ornaments will shrink slightly when baking.
Bake at 200° for two hours or longer if needed. Ornaments should be firm when removed and hard when cooled.

Years ago, Barbara Frost was shopping the mall in Bozeman when she happened
upon an “angel tree”. Decorated with tags featuring wish-lists, the tree was intended to help area children in need have a joy-filled Christmas. Frost began to wonder if there was anything for the kids in Three Forks. “I asked and found out there was not, so I started it,” she said. She estimates that was about six year ago. After Frost took a job outside of Three Forks recently, there was some concern that she wouldn’t be coordinating it again this year. “I just love kids and Three Forks is wonderful as a community when it comes to helping. I couldn’t not do it,” she said. The Angel Tree will be displayed at the Three Forks Sherrif ’s Office (next to Railway
Drug) the evening of the stroll. After that, it can be found at First Security Bank. Frost’s new work schedule conflicts with the stroll, so Pam LeBlanc (also known as “The Hat Lady”) will be sitting in for her at the Sheriff ’s Office that evening. Since the first year where there were approximately fifty kids, the need in our area has grown. “I wouldn’t be surprised if we have 200 kids this year,” stated Frost. Nominated children range in age from newborn up to high school seniors. If you can afford to buy a few extra gifts for a local child to help make their Christmas morning special, stop by the Sheriff ’s Office during the stroll, or visit First Security Bank after that. Another option is to call Barbara Frost directly (599-1553) and she can pick a name for you. All gifts must be brought into First Security Bank for distribution by December 16th. If you’d like to sponsor a child but don’t have time to shop, you may make a tax-deductible donation.

Sugar ‘n Spice and Goody Gumdrops make their annual showing once again. Participants are invited to create confectionary and edible architectural wonders and enter them into the Chamber contest that has become a Stroll favorite. Judging will be based on imagination, construction and decoration detail.
Entries should have a base appropriate to the size of the gingerbread house and should not exceed 30” x 30”. All entries must be on a piece of plywood or other rigid base. Completed entry forms should accompany the houses and the Chamber recommends that entrants attach a 3”x5” card with all entry info to the underside of the base in case the entry form gets separated.
Houses must be constructed of all edible materials. Non-visible interior supports of other materials are not allowed. Main construction should be gingerbread and can include condiments (candies, etc.) and icing of course.
A new category has been added this year to include professionals. The categories are (1) Ages 6 and under; (2) ages 7-12; (3) ages 13-17; (4) age 18 and older; (5) family; (6) professional (new this year!).
Judging will begin at 3 p.m., so the latest that entries can be turned in is 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 6 at the Lewis and Clark. Entries can be dropped off Thursday between 12 pm and 8 pm, or on Friday between 10 am and 2:30 pm. Houses will remain on display at the Lewis and Clark during the Stroll, then should be picked up on Saturday, December 7th between 10 a.m. and 1 pm. If you have any questions, contact the Chamber at 285-4753.
