Introduction Teaching is one of most influential profession in society. The importance of teacher in educational program of a country is too great. Teacher through teaching not only shaping to student but also shapes to behavior of human being, Society and nation. The teacher is called as ‘architect of Nation’ ‘The maker of man’ and the maker of history. No educational program can be successful without the proper teaching of teacher. For effective teaching, teacher should possess so many qualities like command over subject and language, effective communication skills, good general knowledge, along with this qualities attitude, average IQ as well as EQ towards teaching profession as it plays key role.

After Daniel Golman’s new concept of Emotional intelligence, Thinkers & Experts in Education field

started thinking on emotional involvement of teacher in his job. Teachers having the qualities like self-awareness, self-motivation, Empathy, emotional stability and activity of managing relation can

invoke inspiration to students and the teaching of them will be ideal for students and such teachers will

be surely satisfied in their service. Much more, teachers’ level of emotional intelligence greatly

affect the teaching effectiveness.

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence the capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of others, motivating ourselves, managing emotions effectively in ourselves and others. An Emotional Intelligence is a learned capability that contributes in all aspects of life. Your EI competencies are the abilities that will help you to reflect upon your practice in planning learning activities and processes that support your students’ learning, helping your students learn from each other, contributing to and developing within a network of colleagues and peers.

Emotional intelligence is not about being emotional.

• It is about being smart with your emotions.

The clusters of competencies work together; Emotional self-awareness is the ability to understand your own emotions and their effects. It is being able to recognize how you react to cues in the environment and how your emotions affect your performance. It’s about knowing your inner resources, abilities and limits. It is based on the desire to receive feedback and new perspectives about yourself, and to be motivated by continuous learning and self-development..Self- Management through Emotional Self-Control is the ability to keep your impulsive feelings and emotions under control. It is, when faced with opposition or hostility from others, or when working under pressure.

Self-Motivation through Positive Outlook, this competency is about seeing the world as a glass that is ‘half-full’ rather than ‘half-empty’. This is the ability to see good in others and in the current situation. Threats are viewed merely as opportunities that can be acted upon and taken advantage of to achieve optimal outcomes. Empathy, this competency is about understanding other people. It is the ability to hear and understand accurately the unspoken or partly expressed thoughts, feelings and concerns of others. People with empathy are able to constantly pick up emotional cues. They can appreciate not only what people are saying, but also why they are saying it.  Coach and Mentor, this competency is the ability to foster the long term learning or development of others. Its focus is on the behaviors involved in developing others, rather than on the formal role of teaching or training. Those who do this well spend time helping people find their own way to excellence through specific feedback on current performance.

This paper sought to review and analyze the five major components of Emotional Intelligence which affects the teaching effectiveness of Teachers which is according to Daniel Goleman, author of Emotional intelligence believes the success in life is a function not only of ones IQ but of his Emotional Quotient as well.

On the Profile of the Faculty and Staff Table 1 shows the composition of faculty of Caningay National High School, Municipality of Candoni according to degree program. Bachelor of Science in Education major in English has 11.76% of respondents. Bachelor of Science in Education major in Math has 11.76% of respondents. Bachelor of Science in Education major in Science; Bachelor of Science in Education major in Filipino has 11.76% of respondents; Bachelor of Science in Education major in Values Education has 5.89% of respondent; Bachelor of Science in Education major in History has 5.89% of respondent; Bachelor of Science in Education major in Technical Livelihood Education has 11.76% of respondents; Accountancy major has 11.76%, Masters of Science major in Psychology, Guidance & Counseling , 5.89% and Information Technology 11.76% .

Note: Make a bar graph We have 6 male & 11 female faculty under the teaching force of Caningay National High School,Municipality of Candoni.The study implies that most of the female faculty reveals definite strength and male faculty shows needs for some development in the 5 components of EI.

Based on the result of the of the study, 47.05% (8) faculty from Caningay National High School shows definite strength with regards to their emotional awareness which is important component of EI. Emotional self-awareness also enables us to sustain our emotionally and socially intelligent behavior, despite setbacks, overtime. However, 5 faculty with 29.41% shows needs some development in the area of this competency. Likewise, 4 faculty exhibits 23.52% reveals needs substantial development with regards to their EI.

Findings reveals also that 5 faculty only got 29.41% with regards to the Management of one’s emotion. This indicates also that 35.29% of which 6 faculty needs some and substantial development in these component of EI. When you demonstrate Emotional Self-Control under managing one’s emotion, you deal calmly with stress, display restraint and control in your impulses, stay poised and positive, even in difficult moments and are able to get the job done despite feeling negative emotions.

However, with regards to the component of self-motivation 7 faculty exhibits 41.17% of definite strength while 29.41% (5) faculty and staff both shows needs some and substantial development in their EI. When you demonstrate positive outlook under self-motivation you see opportunities rather than threats, have mainly positive expectations for the future, have positive expectations about others, believe the future will be better than the past and see the positive side of difficult situations.

When you demonstrate Empathy you read people’s moods or non-verbal cues accurately, respect and relate well to people of diverse backgrounds, listen attentively to others, understand others’ perspective when they are different from your own and understand the reasons for another’s actions. 7 faculty reveals 41.17% with definite strength while 23.52% ( 4 )faculty and staff shows needs some development and 6 faculty needs substantial development with 35.29% .This indicates the need for development in this component.

With regards to the result of the Coaching Others’ Emotions 4 faculty and staff shows 23.52% have definite strength while 35.29% ( 6 ) faculty and staff needs some development and 7 faculty and staff reveals 41.17% with needs of substantial development. When you demonstrate the component of Coaching Others’ Emotions you make activities or projects engaging, inspire others by stating a vision or goal, motivate others by generating emotional reactions, build pride in the group and lead by bringing out the best in people.

Comparing IQ and EQ Goleman says “high IQ makes you a

sociologist of marriage; high EQ makes you happily married. High

IQ lets you write a psychiatric theory; high EQ means you don’t

need a psychiatrist”.

Recommendation It is also the objective of this study to have a program intervention/plan for self-development for areas which result fell into the “needs substantial development” and

“needs some development” range. Likewise, to help the faculty of Caningay National High School, at

Municipality of Candoni to be aware of their own emotional intelligence which greatly affect their

teaching effectiveness as well to know the importance of being able to perform well in most managerial and

professional jobs which are important to leading a fulfilling life in general.
