PLAN ACTIVITY OUTCOMETo complete this section, you should be able to confidently:

Plan out the project you wish to create. Discuss the project plan with your assessor.

PROJECT GOALCircle a project goal. You can select more than one.

PROJECT AIMSWrite out six skills you wish to improve over the course of the project, and why you wish to improve them. These can be any skills involved in the hobby, eg. using transfers or painting faces.

PROJECT PLANUsing this section of the booklet as a guide, write a project plan using a computer and present it to your Assessor. Make sure it includes:

• Designs for the completed project• Information on how the project will meet your highlighted Skill development aims• What support you will need to achieve it• An equipment list• A timeline that sets out how you will complete your chosen models to a Parade Ready standard.

Follow the instructions to create a personalised plan.

It’s hard to know where to start when creating an ambitious project, but there are plenty of places to look for ideas. You could aim to collect enough models to create a display board for Armies on Parade (see page 23), or you could focus on a single, enormous model that you haven’t had the courage to attempt yet. If you’re stuck for project inspiration, check out page 40 to find out about different challenges you can set yourself. The possibilities are endless!

4.1 - COLLECTINSPIRATIONFor a good project example, a single large model is a great challenge to set yourself, such as the hero Aventis Firestrike of the Stormcast Eternals. It will require a combination of multiple skills you have already learned, and will be extremely rewarding to complete. Pick a model kit that may have previously seemed challenging to you, and you may find yourself achieving and perfecting new skills much faster as you go.

LEVEL FOUR

Now you are challenging yourself with a self-led project, the only limit is your imagination when it comes to building your models.

COMBINE YOUR SKILLSIt’s important to think about what skills you will need for your project. You may need to build a lot of unique bases if you are tying an army together, or find parts from other kits to convert a hero and make them unique. It’s also important to have some Liquid Green Stuff on hand to make your painting easier and smoother later down the line.

Make a list of skills you will need to use for your project.

INSPIRATIONIn the example of a single large model, you will need to use a variety of tools, including clippers, mouldline remover,

and Citadel Liquid Green Stuff to ensure a smooth and perfect finish. If you are converting the model in any

way, like changing out weapons or heads, you will need the parts for that on hand. You may

also need PVA glue or Citadel Texture Paint to decorate the base, along with whatever

materials you wish to use (if any).

4.3 - PAINTNow you are working on your own project, you can explore your wildest and most ambitious ideas, from painting big models to unifying entire armies with your favourite colour scheme. This is the perfect time to experiment and paint up your ideal force.

PLAN AND TESTIt’s important to think about what skills you will need for your project. Make sure you have all the paints you need, including Base, Layer, Shade, Dry, and Contrast paints. Select any Technical paints you may need for weather effects as well - adding extra details will help you achieve your ideal Parade Ready standard. Use the opposite page to sketch, colour, and plan your colour scheme. You may find labelling your plan with specific paints helpful.

Once you are done, build a spare model and test your colour scheme on it before you commit to painting an entire army. You will find this useful to identify any colours you need to change or add before you continue. You can also test the paint scheme for a large model on a smaller test model first to make sure the colours turn out just how you imagined.

You may find the Citadel Colour app helpful for working out exactly which paints you need to make what colour. For more information on the App, and for further advice on painting techniques, you can check out the Citadel Colour website.

INSPIRATIONIn the example of a single large model, you will need to

use a variety of paints for both Aventis and his feathery Tauralon mount. Depending on your colour scheme, this may include metallic Base paints for the armour, shades of blue and red for the fabric, and a variety of Contrast and Dry paints for the Mount. Don’t forget to check the Citadel Colour website to figure out which Layer and Shade paints you will need to get your centrepiece model to a Parade Ready standard.

DIORAMASPainting a Diorama is a good way to create an elite collection of models and a creative place to display them. Dioramas often tell stories using their colour scheme and environment. Is this the warband’s homeworld, or are they fighting on another planet or realm? Does the colour of the world complement your army’s colour scheme, or does the environment clash? Is it snowy, sandy or covered with plants? By building a diorama, you can express your story whilst also getting the chance to paint scenery and warbands for use in games.

LARGE MODELSPainting a big model is a very rewarding experience. It can take longer than painting a smaller miniature, or even a unit, but will often be more eye-catching and impressive. Painting bigger models will often require more combinations of your skills in order to produce the many different colours and textures they feature. Aventis Firestrike, for example, has a feathered mount, gleaming armour, and draping fabric.

It’s important to take your time with bigger models in order to help them look their best, and never be scared to ask for help.

PAINTING YOUR ARMYPainting an army is a great opportunity to create a colour scheme - a big army unified by several distinct colours is a very impressive sight! If you are using these project pages to complete a large army for a game or for display, make sure to plan your colour scheme in advance and use the same paints consistently throughout your army.

You may also want to use variations of this colour scheme on bigger units, such as vehicles, for the ultimate cohesive finish.

Now that you are planning and leading your own projects, the worlds of Warhammer are truly at your fingertips! Whether you form your project around ambitious building, creative painting or large-scale gaming, here are some ideas that might stoke the flames of inspiration. What do you think you will attempt next?

CONVERSIONSIntroduced in Level 3, converting models is a great way to create ambitious projects that are one-of-a-kind. Now that you have experience planning and carrying out your own projects, as well as the skills needed to do so, you can try attempting bigger and more complex conversions.

Some hobbyists splice multiple kits together to create unique centrepieces for their army. Or, if you’d rather keep it small, you might consider taking a large group of models and making small changes to each one. By converting your miniatures, your army will never be the same as someone else’s, and each model will have a fun story behind it!

ENTER A TOURNAMENT OR PAINTING EVENTEntering a Warhammer tournament or painting event can be a good way of inspiring your future projects. Not only will you get a taste of what it’s like to participate in the wider community, you will be able to talk to other artists and pick up new skills and ideas for colour schemes.

Tournaments are also a great way to find new friends to play Warhammer games with. Connect with your local community and find more people to trade tips and advice with, and you will find that you may pick up skills you hadn’t even considered before. If you’ve never participated in a large event before, don’t worry - your store staff are always on hand to answer your questions and support you whilst you prepare.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO DO?Now you’ve explored some of the possibilities of what you can do with your finished project, fill out the box below with your own ideas.

LEVEL FOUR

Congratulations on completing your project! From beginning to end, you’ve created something unique to you and forged your own Warhammer path. Talk about the outcome with your Assessor and evaluate the progress you’ve made.

SELF-ASSESSMENTWrite in your project aims from page 34 and then evaluate how each skill has improved over the course of your project. If you feel you didn’t complete, or changed one of your aims, that’s ok! Write about why you think that might have been, and how you can work on it in the future.

Top Tip: Photocopy this page and ask your Assessor to fill it in and compare the results. They may identify different areas to you.

POSE FOR A PHOTOGRAPHNow your project is finished, try posing your army for a picture. It can be tricky to get your models to look as great in a photograph as they do in your hand, but thankfully, even a phone camera can capture the right details as long as you use a good light source.

Experiment with different lights and background colours to see what makes your army look best, and then glue your favourite pictures into the box below.

For more advice on photographing your models, you can check out the Warhammer Community photography guide.
