TIP-Q.C. March 29,2012 DR. JESUSA N. PADILLA De an of En gi ne ering & Architecture Technological Institut e of the Phil ip pines Quezon City J Madam: It is quite disheartening for a mother to find out that her son will not be able to join the commencement ceremonies after years of perseverance and hard work to accomplish a dream of becoming a Civil Engineer . More disappointing is the information that almost 97% of the so called graduating class in Civil Engineering course batch 2012 got disqualifying marks and therefore failed to pass graduation requirements. These students, Madam, cannot be tagged as irresponsible in their studies as I see most of them diligently working on their homeworks, preparing and studying for their tests, nd conscientiously reading and discussing pertinent subjects relative to the course of civil engineering. I can attest to this because they are almost boarders in our house, jOintly studying with my son who is one among the 97% who will not be allowed to graduate. Moreover, it is surprising to note that these students consistently passed their freshman, sophomore and junior years and reached this 5th year level with the expectation that finally, they made their way to the culmin tion of their stay in college and r ward their parent's sacri ices and hardships, only to break their hearts and made their dreams suddenly collapsing because of the school's strict adherence to its grad ng system. I do not mean this as an intrusion on the school's standing policies but rather be construed as suggestive in nature. I do understand that the sc ool honors a fair and honest grading sy st em , establishing a maximum, minimum and median scores for passing a subject . And when more that 50% of the class obtained failing grades (97% in this case) especially graduating class, the school may allow a standard deviation on the basis of percentage from the highest grade to the lowest, thereby creating a leeway for the next higher level of passing. f On behalf of my son , FRITl DOMINIC M. BONGeO together with his classmates and other students whose graduation this year remains doubtful and in behalf of their mothers whose dreams are in the brink of getting shuttered, I wish to make an appeal to their professors thru your good office, that students subject of this letter be given another chance and opportunity to make a successful march in the coming Commencement Exercises giving them a break n some favorable occasion to show they are contributors to the well being of our society.
