III. PRECONDITION MATERIALPhysical and Chemical Properties

Some physical properties of an object are as follows:

    1. States of matter: solid, liquid, gas.2. Color and smell.3. The taste, the nature of an object related to the composition of a substance in a material.4. Mass, the mass of a substance can be measured using scales or balance.5. Volume, volume can be measured with a measuring cup.6. Solubility. Solubility is the ability of a substance to dissolve in a solvent.7. Boiling point, melting point, and freezing point.8. Violence. Hardness is the resistance properties of a substance to friction and forging.9. Magnetism is a trait that is related to the ability of a substance to be affected by a

    magnetic field.

10.Conductivity, which is a trait that is related to the ability of a substance to conductelectricity or heat.

The properties are classified as chemical properties such as:

    1. Easy to whether or not an object / substance burned.2. Stability, easy or not an object / substance decomposed by heat influence.3. Reactivity, easy or not a substance to react with other substances.4. Rusty, easy or not a substance to form rust.

    IV. LESSON MATERIALA. Household Chemicals

Household chemicals can be grouped into four categories:

  • 7/28/2019 LESSSON PLAN.docx

    5/23

    1. CleanerCleansing works to clean various household objects from the dirt. There are several types

of chemicals that can be used as a cleanser. For example, body cleansers, cleaning hair,

motorcycle and car cleaners, cleaning dishes, cleaning clothes, and floor cleaners. The

cleaners are known in general with detergent.

    2. BleachProduct function bleach to whiten white clothes stains are difficult to clean with ordinary

cleansers. In addition to whiten clothes, there is also a whitening product that serves to

    whiten the face or body.

    3. FragranceProducts used to scent a room deodorizer or body. Deodorizer product was a liquid, such

as fragrances, body, hair, and clothing.

    4. Insect repellentProduct insect repellent or insecticide used to kill insects that damage or disturb humans,

such as mosquitoes, flies, and cockroaches. Most insect repellent products on the market

is to eradicate mosquitoes. This product is commonly known as 'repellent'.

    B. Effect of Use of Household Chemicals

As for some of the effect of using household chemicals, among others:

    1. Effect of Chemicals in Cleaning ProductsHow does the influence of chemicals in the cleaning products so that the chemical can

clean the dirt? Soap molecule consists of two parts, namely the part that is hydrophilic

and hydrophobic. Hydrophilic part is the part that likes water or polar. The hydrophobic

part is the part that does not like water or nonpolar nature.

    2. Effect of Chemicals on Whitening ProductsWhite clothing when exposed to dirt, it is usually difficult to clean with ordinary soap

products. Therefore, the necessary additional chemicals to whiten back the soiled clothes

bleach. The active ingredient is a hypochlorite bleach. For example on a floured bleach

containing hypochlorite Ca (ClO2) is usually known chlorine and bleach contains sodium

    hypochlorite (NaClO).

    3. Effect of Chemicals in Fragrance Products

  • 7/28/2019 LESSSON PLAN.docx

    6/23

Materials for the scent wardrobe usually use mothballs or better known as camphor.

    4. Effect of Chemicals in Products Insect ExterminatorInsect repellent products is very diverse. Insects are the most disturbing mosquitoes.

Usually the chemicals found in insecticides consisting of carbamate compounds,

    phosphates and chlorine.

    C. Side Effects Using Household Chemicals and Prevention

Besides gives benefits, the use of chemicals in cleaning products, bleach, deodorant, insect

repellent excessive and can cause side effects on the body, health, and the environment.

    1. Side Effects Use of Cleaning ProductsSide effects of the use of soap or detergent is causing household waste in the form of

foam. Posed foam soap that can be broken down by microorganisms in the soil, while the

foam produced from difficult detergent broken down by microorganisms in the soil.

    2. Use Side Effects WhiteningClothing bleach usually contains chlorine compounds that can damage fabric fibers and

colors of clothing. In addition, chlorine compounds can also cause irritation to the skin.

Skin whitening ingredient that contains excessive mercury or mercury can damage the

nervous system, because mercury is a kind of toxic chemicals and very harmful to health.

    3. Side Effects of Using Fragrance ProductsThe purpose of using materials to produce a perfume is the fragrance wearer, personal

items, or the air around them. However, most of us do not realize that fragrance products

can be dangerous to our health, especially for pregnant women.

    4. Side Effects of Product Use Insect ExterminatorWith aerosol insect repellent products can lead to depletion of the stratospheric ozone

layer. Role of stratospheric ozone protects life on earth from ultra-violet radiation. Ozone

depletion will increase the number of patients with skin cancer significantly, including

malignant melanoma, and people with cataracts. It also can damage agricultural products.

Anti mosquito, including the pesticides (pest control), so that the anti-mosquito drugs

    also contain toxins.

    V. ENRICHMENT MATERIALSDetergents waste

Today, water pollution becomes a serious problem. Household wastes stemming from the use

of detergents and various types of soap to be one of the causes of water pollution. Detergent

harder broken down by microorganisms in the soil than soap. Some of the side effects of the

use of detergents on the environment is as follows.

    a. Detergent foam that accumulates on the surface of the river will prevent the absorption ofoxygen from the air into the water stream. As a result, the river water will decrease

oxygen levels, which in turn would cause the animals who live in it died.

    b. The growth of certain algae and water hyacinth will increase rapidly due to increasedphosphate levels in the water due to the presence of detergents. If the surface of the water

until it is covered by the growth of aquatic plants, phytoplankton is the chance you should

get enough sunlight for photosynthesis becomes distracted and eventually die. As a result,

many water animals come to die because life just rely on the consumption of

    phytoplankton there.

    c. If the water is polluted by the detergent used for bathing, water can cause irritation anditching on sensitive skin.

    d. If the water is polluted by the detergent used for cooking or drinking, water can causestomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and so on.

ANSWER KEY AND SCORING OF COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT SHEET

    1. The term biodegradable refers to the ability of a material to be broken down, by a groupof biological organisms called decomposers, into various other compounds. Decomposers

are a necessary component of a balanced ecosystem present in natural waters and

sediments, and are encouraged in sewage treatment works. Bacteria are the most common

    decomposers. (2)

    2. Soap is the result of fatty acid neutralization process using alkaliDetergent / detergent is a mixture of chemical substances of natural or synthetic that has

properties that can draw impurities from the media.

So if we tell which one is better comparing detergent / detergent or soap distinctly

different functions. Soap is usually used to clean a product that relate directly to human

skin like soap / hand soap that needs moisturizing soap in this case is usually called

moisture if a soap has a moisture making big then we use the more delicate skin.

Detergent are surface active agents that function lift impurities present on the surface of

certain substances. in fact, in Indonesia people about the laundry soap detergent only

when the truth in all aspects of our lives using detergent.(4)

    3. Side effects can be mild irritation, erythematous, hyperpigmented, to more severedisorders such as contact dermatitis pigmented, ookronosis, contact leukoderma fiber

pigmentation of the nails, and cancer(3)

    4. Side effects of the use of insect repellent products and its prevention. Although theproduct is used as an insect repellent insect venom, this product can also be toxic to the

human body. DDT compounds found in the body in certain amounts can cause toxicity.
