Lessons 10-11 (Q53-62; pgs. 67-76) 10/12/11 Class discussion: 1. Bob has good intentions. He promises himself that he’s going to take some time each evening to read God’s Word. But most nights he forgets. He comes home, turns on the TV, and ends up watching it instead. He’s not happy wit himself about this, and he asks you what he should do. What are some things you might suggest that Bob do? 2. Agree or disagree: it’s ok to miss church if the only job you can get to support yourself is on Sunday. 3. What’s wrong here? Teri says she doesn’t have to go to Bible class or read the bible at home because she gets all the spiritual strength she needs from the Sunday morning worship. 4. Agree or disagree: Children can’t understand what’s going on in church so they shouldn’t really be there. 5. Evaluate: Mark said, “I don’t mind singing four or five stanza hymns in church, but I just can’t stand it when we sing seven or eight stanzas.” 6. What’s wrong here? How come I have to go to church even if I don’t feel good and Jackie gets to stay home almost every Sunday? 7. Agree or disagree: If you don’t understand the sermons, the hour in worship is wasted. 8. Agree or disagree: If we are in church every Sunday, we are obeying the Third Commandment. 9. Evaluate: Joe has a house full of company on a weekend. Joe invites them to go to church with his family, but the visitors explain that they never go to church. Joe decides the best thing he can do is stay home from church and show his guests good Christian hospitality. Much of our Lutheran liturgy contains quotes from Bible passages. Match the parts of the liturgy to the parts of the Bible

from which they are quoted. Then explain in your own words why you think they are used at that point in the service.

Some parts of the liturgy have two different sources. You may use a Bible passage more than once.
