LESSON PLAN N°16 Learning objectives -To identify the amount of sugar in some common foods and drinks as well as food that is high in nutrients and moderate to low in sugar. -To create awareness of the risks of too much sugar in our bodies. - To learn the ideal amount of sugar for each person according to their age. Warm up – 10 minutes - The teacher will give students their badges with their names. -The teacher will begin the class checking the attendance and writing the date on the board. - The teacher will present the topic “Sugar in food and drink” by showing a poster with the illnesses that sugar can cause in our body. Moreover, she will show them different food and how much sugar they contain by measuring it in teaspoons. Development Activity 1: The teacher will give students a copy with different pictures of food and drink with their corresponding sugar teaspoons and they will have to write the name of the food item and draw a happy face near the healthy ones and a sad face near the unhealthy ones. LESSON PLAN N°16Learning objectives-To identify the amount of sugar in some common foods and drinks as well as food that is high in nutrients and moderate to low in sugar.

Warm up – 10 minutes

- The teacher will give students their badges with their names.

-The teacher will begin the class checking the attendance and writing the date on the board.

- The teacher will present the topic “Sugar in food and drink” by showing a poster with the illnesses that sugar can cause in our body. Moreover, she will show them different food and how much sugar they contain by measuring it in teaspoons.

Activity 1: The teacher will give students a copy with different pictures of food and drink with their corresponding sugar teaspoons and they will have to write the name of the food item and draw a happy face near the healthy ones and a sad face near the unhealthy ones.

Activity 2: The teacher will give the students a copy with all the food that children eat for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. Moreover, they will receive another copy with a chart containing the recommended maximum intake of added sugar suggested by the World Health Organization. They will have to work in pairs and calculate the total amount of teaspoons of sugar that the boy or girl eats and how many teaspoons of sugar other than recommended for his/her age has consumed. Half of the class will receive a copy of a High Sugar day for Susan, and the other half a copy of a High sugar day for Tom.

The teacher will show students a chart with GO, YIELD and STOP drinks explaining them why we have to choose them most often, sometimes or least often.

Activity 3: The teacher will introduce a game. She will place the GO, YIELD and STOP signs on the walls in three different corners of the room. The students will receive a drink picture and they will have to stick them below the correct sign.

*Students that got a GO drink will have to clap on their way

* Students that got a YIELD drink will have to jump on their way

* Students that got a STOP drink will have to walk on their way

Closing the class – 3 minutes

- The teacher will say GOODBYE and THANK YOU to the whole group.
