HEADING AND GROUND VELOCITY

LEVEL 1

A quadrant bearing of S73°W is equivalent to a true bearing of 253°.

Geometric vectors have both magnitude and direction but Cartesian vectors have only magnitude.

Unit vectors have a magnitude of one but no direction.

If AB and CD have the same magnitude but opposite direction, then AB = - DC.

A quadrant bearing of S53°W is equivalent to a true bearing of 233°.

A vector is a quantity that has both magnitude and direction.

LEVEL 2

A 50 N force is applied at 25° to the vertical. Write this force as a linear combination of the unit vectors.

A vector extends from the origin to the point (5, 8). Find the angle that the vector makes with the positive x-axis.

LEVEL 3

Two forces, with magnitudes 200 N and 95 N, act on an object at 15° to one another. Determine the magnitude of the resultant force acting on the object

LEVEL 4

Jojo wishes to swim from one side of a river, which has a current speed of 2 km/h, to a point on the other side directly opposite from the starting point. She can swim at a speed of 3 km/h in still water.a) At what angle to the bank should Jojo swim

if she wishes to swim directly across?b) If the river has a width of 300 m. How long

will it take for her to cross the river?
