More tricky spellings: Simple Past• Doubling the consonant.

If the verb ends in a consonant + vowel + consonant

Then you must double the last consonant then add + ed

Not so simple….because of irregular verbs……

Present Tense: I drive to school. Past Tense: I drove to school.

Present Tense: I write books. Past Tense: I wrote books.

Regular Example: Yesterday, I talked to John. I didn’t talk to Sarah.

Irregular: Saturday I slept a lot. Sunday, I didn’t sleep.

Construction: Did not + Verb (infinitive)
