IntroductionTHE WAR OF 1812 WAS THE SECOND MAJOR CLASH BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND BRITIAN IN NORTH AMERICA. ALTHOUGH NEITHER SIDE WON A CLEAR VICTORY, THE WAR GAVE AMERICANS A SENSE OF STRONG NATIONAL PRIDE!!!!

EFFORTS TOWARD PEACEREPUBLICAN JAMES MADISON WON PRESIDENCY IN 1808, WANTS TO AVOID WARASKED CONGRESS TO PASS NON-INTERCOURSE ACT = BANNED TRADE W/ BRITIAN AND FRANCEPLAN WAS TO PLAY BRITAIN AND FRANCE AGAINST EACH OTHERACTUALLY WORKED, BUT TOO LATE!
