OSMOSIS
LESSON OBJECTIVES
1. Define and explain osmosis2. Describe factors that affect the rate of
osmosis3. Explain the role of water in supporting plants
(Triple only)
.
Osmosis is the diffusion of water resulting in a movement of water molecules from a
region of high water concentration (dilute sugar solution) to a region of low water
concentration (concentrated sugar solution) through a partially permeable membrane until in equilibrium. It does not require
energy.

Complete the worksheet1. Label the side of the beaker with the highest concentration of water molecules.2. Label the side of the beaker with the lowest concentration of water molecules.3. Draw arrows onto the diagram showing the direction of water movement by osmosis.4. Explain why the water molecules move in this direction.5: Explain the role of water in supporting plant tissue
