Did women ever fight for their

rights? Yes, they did.

Since the 18th century women have

fought for their rights in countries

such as the United States and

England, and after that in other

countries, too .

Women who fought for the right to vote

were called “Suffragettes” because the

word “suffrage” means “right to vote.”

Women fought in many ways for their human

rights. They made demonstrations, wrote

letters to the Congress and Parliament, wrote

books, went to Court, published articles and

announcements in the press.

Even though most women were

given their civil rights, do you

think they really have their full

rights today and

are equal to men?

Page 23: Lesson 10. face the problem that women’s rights are being violated learn about the struggle by women for their rights read texts which discuss the problem.

In most countries, even today women still do not have full rights.

Women are still discriminated against in many areas:

They are not paid as much as

men, even when they are doing

the same job.

There are less women in higher

positions than men.

In order to change women’s status

in the world, women are still

struggling for their human rights.

Page 26: Lesson 10. face the problem that women’s rights are being violated learn about the struggle by women for their rights read texts which discuss the problem.

Although the struggle for equal rights

between men and women is still going

on, the status of women in many

countries of the world is improving.

One of the most effective ways to

change injustice is to show the

younger generation the proper way to

live according to the laws of equal

human rights without any

discrimination.
