  • 15. Book 1Lesson 1(The First-Day Blues)15 -1 How to make friends in high school Read more : http://www.ehow.com/how_4472283_make-friends-high-school.html#ixzz2YBywcblb 1.Join clubs Pick clubs that focus on something in which you are interested. This will help you to meet other high school students with interests similar to yours. Make sure that you are willing to participate in club activities. These may give you an opportunity to meet high school students from other schools, too. Consider FBLA, 4-H, a foreign language club or a subject specific club like a math club. 2.Play sports Pick something that you are good at. Keep in mind that you may have to try out for the teams. Be willing to play junior varsity if you are unable to make the Varsity team. When you join a sports team, you are making a commitment to do your best and if you do that, other team members will learn to trust you. Many people who play sports form almost instant friendships since they spend so much 3.Stay friendly If you smile and have a good attitude, people will think that you are a good person to be around. Make sure that you always stay friendly, even when you dislike someone. Other people will notice if you are mean. Be a good friend. Using your friends will earn you the reputation of being a bad friend. If you want to make friends, you should make sure that you act like a friend. Resist the temptation to talk about someone behind her back. 4.Practice good hygiene. People tend to stay away from a person who stinks or looks nasty. If you want to make friends in high school, you need to make sure that your clothes are neat and clean and make sure that you smell good. Brush your teeth, take a shower, put on deodorant, brush your hair, wash and iron your clothes and clean your shoes. 5.Consider participating in after school activities that are sponsored by churches or community centers. You may meet students from other schools that share your interests and ideals.
  • 16. Book 1Lesson 1(The First-Day Blues)16 -2 You're about to start a new school and want to make friends there. What do you do? Here are some tips on how to meet people and make friends at a new school and how to adjust to your new surroundings. Tips: 1. Give yourself a little pep talk before you approach new people: You're an interesting and unique person who'd make a great friend. That's an offer they can't refuse! 2. Point out things that you have in common with other people. Does the girl sitting next to you live in your neighborhood? Is the guy at the locker next to yours listening to the same things as you on his iPod? Introduce yourself, say that you're new, and ask them about themselves -- and the thing that you have in common. 3. Don't be too hard on yourself. Making new friends takes a lot of time and effort. Let things play out naturally and be patient. In the meantime, rely on your family and, if you can, friends from your old school or neighborhood until you get situated at your new school (and afterwards, too, of course). 4. Be a good listener. Being a good listener helps you relate better to other people, wins their confidence, and helps you be a better friend. It also shows that you're not self-centered. 5. Be sensitive to others' strengths, weaknesses and needs. Don't make friends by picking on other people's flaws: It will most likely come back to haunt you. It's more helpful to focus on what other people are good at and find ways you can help balance out their weaker areas. For instance, is a classmate nervous about the next science test? Offer to study with them or tell them about a time you were nervous about a test but succeeded (and that they can succeed, too). :http://teenadvice.about.com/od/friends/ht/new_school.htm
  • 17. Book 1Lesson 1(The First-Day Blues)17 ( Live Jan 2013 No.141) A New Day, a New You Are you in a mad dash() to get out the door each morning? If you feel stressed in the morning, dont panic(). With a few changes, you can make more time for yourself and get your day started right. Prepare the Night Before Pack your lunch, put your books in your schoolbag, and find your keys. You can also lay out() your clothes and accessories() for the next day. Rise Early Getting up a little earlier can mean the difference between rushing around and having a peaceful morning. Stop the Snoozing() Hitting the snooze button on your alarm clock again and again is a bad habit that can make you late. Try using two alarm clocks instead. Set one for the latest time you can get up and the other twenty minutes earlier. When you hear the second alarm, youll have no choice but to(;) roll out of bed. Schedule Your Day Spend a few minutes each morning writing your schedule for the rest of the day. Fuel Up The belief that breakfast is the most important meal of the day is backed up ()by scientific studies. Make time for breakfast. Exercise for Energy Recent studies show that people who exercise for forty-five minutes in the morning are more active throughout the day and think about food less often. Making the most of your morning will help you be in control of your entire day. By creating a morning routine(), you can feel more relaxed and confident, and you will be ready to face the day ahead.
