Beginners' Course on Islam 2, Lesson 1.

My first BCI 2 class kicked off on the 8th of October 2012. This class is aimed to assist students to see how Islam is practiced and applicable till today.

Though more than 1400 years have passed, Islam remains as religion that can be practiced and the values are universal that transcended beyond space, time and community.

What is the important message of the religion?

A Muslim is someone who submits to Allah.

Muslims do what is commanded and refrained from what is prohibited.

Muslims observe their duties to:1. Their Lord;2. His creation.

However, Allah knows that His creations has needs and is hoping for those needs to be fulfilled.

What do you want in life?

What do you actually need in life?1. Physical needs;2. Emotional needs;3. Societal needs;4. Environmental needs

What have Islam presented to address these needs?

What was the situation back then before the coming of Islam?

What is the environment of the society that prophet Muhammad was sent to?1. Arabia was divided into tribes and cities;2. Survival of the fittest;3. Basic human rights were not available;4. Etc.

3. Adorn education and advocated the importance of knowledge;

4. Giving the rights: To human beings; To animals; To the environment.

The Basic Practices of Islam

As Muslims who have attained faith, we must observe these basic obligations:1. The testimony of Faith (the is no God but Allah and Muhammad is

His prophet);2. Observing the five daily prayers;3. Give out Zakat (obligatory charity);4. Fasting during the month of Ramadan;5. Pilgrimage to Makkah.
