WELCOME to

the first issue of LEO!

This started out as an

idea formed by my wide -

eyed freshman-self and

after a year of day-

dreaming, I finally took

the plunge. It’s pretty

self-explanatory what

happened after that.

IN THIS ISSUE, we hope to introduce to you what we’re all

about. High school is difficult and confusing enough as it is—you don’t

need any more weight on your shoulders. All we aspire to do is inject a

bit of inspiration into your life once every new season rolls around.

WITH WINTER approaching quickly, you can find everything

from inspiration for your day-to-day wardrobe to a winter survival kit.

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS goes out to everyone who made

this possible. Thank you to the contributors who spent lunch hours in

an art room brainstorming ideas and the models (aka friends of mine)

who spent time after school in frigid temperatures just so I could get

the perfect shot. Without you, this lovely group of people, this

would’ve remained some faraway fantasy in my head.

1. Melt the chocolate in a double broiler or in the microwave, stirring constantly.

2. Stick a mini candy cane into the centre of each marshmallow.

3. Cover the outside of each marshmallow with melted chocolate then roll in crushed candy

canes.

4. Place the finished marshmallow pops on a plate covered in wax paper. Put them in the refrigerator

for at least 30 minutes to cool before serving.

Two-bite brownies or home-made brownies cut into small circles (homemade or store-bought)

Strawberries

White icing

1. Cut the tops off of the strawberries and prepare the icing.

2. Use an icing bag with a large circular icing tip* to outline the top of each brownie with a thick line of ic-

ing.

3. Place one strawberry on top each brownie with the point facing up.

4. Squeeze another dot of icing onto the top of each strawberry to complete the Santa hats!

*You can also use a plastic bag with a hole cut in one corner

1 cup butter or shortening (do not use margarine!)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 ¾ cup all-purpose flour

¾ tsp salt

½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

1. Preheat the oven to 325ºF.

2. Cream the butter or shortening and the granulated sugar together.

3. Beat in the eggs and the vanilla extract.

4. Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.

5. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.

6. Roll the dough about ¼ inch thick using flour as needed to stop it from sticking.

7. Cut out different shapes with cookie cut-ters.

8. Bake at 325º for about 10 to 12 minutes

or until golden brown.
