Introduction

Land only covers 25% of the earth and even less of that is

forest, so let’s protect the woods we have! Animals, plants, and

people all need the woods and use it to survive and thrive.

How can you make a difference? Follow this PowerPoint and

you will learn about Leave No Trace and the 7 steps you can

follow to protect our environment for future generations.

Overview of L.N.T.

Leave No Trace (LNT) came about in the mid 20th

century when people began to go through a cultural shift

of relying and using the woods to having minimal impact.

The official principles of LNT came around in the 1960s

and 70s, but it wasn’t until the 90s that the National Park

service got on board. Now you will learn about the

principles that experts across the country use to minimize

impact within the woods.

Be Careful With Fire

Use a lightweight stove for cooking as campfires can cause negative lasting impacts

Always use a fire ring, mound, or pan in areas that permit fires

Keep fires small by only using sticks from the ground that can be broken by hand
