Educational Well-DressedS.A.L.E. Educational Commitment Exceeds $134Million Well-Dressed Western Fundraising
SPRING/SUMMER 2013 SARODEO.COMSPRING/SUMMER 2013 SARODEO.COM 32
Hundreds of Life Members and S.A.L.E. Scholars attended the 64th Annual Life Membership
Meeting held Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in the Expo Hall at the Freeman Coliseum/AT&T Center grounds. After opening remarks and a short report from the Nominating Committee, the new Director Emeriti were recognized. The gathering of members were all smiles as S.A.L.E. President Joe Hutchison gave remarks on his first year as president of the organization. Enthusiastic applause ensued when Executive Director & CEO Keith Martin announced the amazing results from the 2013 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. The list of records broken included overall attendance, Junior Livestock Auction, Rodeo Arena Records, and much more! The announcement of S.A.L.E.’s commitment to education for 2013 followed, as Keith Martin announced that $11.3 million will be committed this year; bringing the total amount since inception to over $134 million.
The evening’s guest speaker, Aaron Jennings, was a former S.A.L.E. Scholar, and is currently an instructor and wool judging coach at Texas Tech University. His remarks included fond memories of his first years as an exhibitor at the livestock show and the life-enriching experiences with many seasoned volunteers on the Sheep and Goat Committee. Mr. Jennings spoke of the always-present and evident S.A.L.E. core values of integrity, caring and excellence. The meeting closed with a brief introduction and “thank you” from each of the graduating S.A.L.E. Scholars who shared their future plans for putting their education to use back in the community.
On Thursday January 24, 2013, the 8th Annual Cowgirls Live Forever Scholarship Luncheon
& Fashion Show took place at the beautiful, historic Pearl Stable. Nancy Loeffler, the 2013 honoree and one of the founding members of the Cowgirls Live Forever event, graciously accepted her honor in front of a sold-out room of spectators.Guests were treated to a divine lunch and fashion show hosted by retailer Julian Gold. Several former Miss Rodeo Texas winners were present to model the fine fashions, along with the 2012 Miss Rodeo Texas Rosanna Pace. S.A.L.E. Scholarship recipient Danielle Wilkins spoke about how her scholarship from the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is currently helping to further her education at Texas A&M University College Station.Since its inception eight years ago, the Cowgirls Live Forever Scholarship Luncheon & Fashion Show has raised over $950,000 for scholarships. This profound giving would not be possible without the contributions of sponsors and donors of the event who avidly support the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s mission.
It was all glitz and glamour at the 2nd annual Let’s Rodeo Ball in the Freeman Coliseum. The
annual event, held on January 19th this year, was once again successful in capturing the ambience of the old Freeman Coliseum. The vast array of food, fine spirits and quality music kept the crowd entertained all the way up to the final song performed by the closing dance band, Hotcakes. Country music superstar, Travis Tritt, headlined the event singing the best of his chart topping 90’s hits as the crowd sang along! This year’s setup included a large stage at the rear of the Freeman Coliseum in addition to the main stage, and a large dance floor. Many also took advantage of the two spacious “photo booth” areas just beyond the dance floor to capture memories.
The Let’s Rodeo Ball Committee would like to thank all the sponsors, donors and patrons who attended the 2013 Let’s Rodeo Ball and contributed to the S.A.L.E. Scholarship Fund!
