Translating in Trados EditorTrados Editor displays bilingual document (ST & TT) in the form of a table where each segment is placed in a separate row. The table has 5 columns:1. Displays Nr of the segment.2. Displays ST segments.Translating in Trados Editor3. Displays segment status. Contains icons indicating the status of translation & its origin. Draft, confirmed etc. In the beginning, all cells in this column contain a white icon, which indicates that all segments are currently untranslated.Translating in Trados Editor4. Displays the target language segments. This is where you enter the translations of the corresponding source segments. 5. Displays the document structure information. (H heading , P paragraph etc).

You can easily move to the next or previous segment to translate or edit in the Editor simply by using the Up/Down Arrow keys on your keyboard. You can also click inside a segment to select it. The selected segment will then be highlighted.Translating the segmentIn the target column enter the translation for the segment. Note that as soon as you start typing the translation the icon next to the segment changes to the following symbol, which indicates that this segment has been edited:This symbol also indicates that this segment is still in draft status, and has not been confirmed and added to the TM yet.

When you finished translating the segment you shd confirm the translation and save it to your TM by pressing the key combination Ctrl+Enter. The segment status icon changes to the following:

This icon indicates that your translation has been confirmed and saved to your TM.

Using AutoSuggestIf in the process of translation there appear suggestions from the dictionary you can insert the necessary one using Enter button. If there are more than 1 suggestions you shd use Arrow Up/Down keys to select the necessary one.

Editing segments that have coincidences with TMWhen you get a suggestion for an identical segment stored in TM, we talk about a 100% or Exact/Context match. If a context match has been found in TM it is automatically inserted & confirmed. The match type is displayed in the segment status column and the symbol indicates that the segment is confirmed.

Editing segments that have coincidences with TMWhenever there is a match rate below 100%, this is called a Fuzzy match. You have to check Translation Results window above the document to see the difference and make necessary changes.Editing segments that have coincidences with TMDifferences between the segment from the TM and the currently active segment from the document are highlighted withred strikethrough (words that have been removed) and blue underline formatting (words that have been added).

On the right-hand side you find the translation for the segment retrieved from the TM inserted as a suggestion.Edit the suggested translation as required by the current source context.

The translation origin icon (which shows 89%) becomes transparent. This indicates that a translation has been suggested from the TM, but a human translator has modified it.

Spell Check as you TypeIf you misspelled a word in the translation this will instantly be highlighted with a wavy red line.Correct spelling mistakes as follows:1. Right-click the incorrect word.2. This opens a context menu with one or more suggested corrections.3. Pick the appropriate suggestion from the context menu to correct the spelling mistake.

You can also run a spell check on the entire document (i.e. after you have completed the translation) through the menu command Tools -> Check Spelling or F7.

Automated translation

Usually Internet addresses and other untranslatable elements appear in TT row automatically and are marked as AT. (automated translation)Auto-propagateWhen you have confirmed the segment that is repeated several times in the text all other occurrences of the same segment will be updated accordingly.Note that the icon next to the translation in other repeated segments has been changed to the following:

Auto-propagateThis symbol indicates that this segment is 100% identical (i.e. an exact match) to the segment from row 1, which you have previously translated and stored in the TM.

Copy ST into TT (Ctrl+Ins)

Searching words and expressions using Concordance SearchA concordance search allows you to select a particular word or expression and look it up in the TM:1. Select the expression in the source segment.2. Press F3 on your keyboard (or right-click and select Concordance Search from the context menu). This will display all segment pairs from the TM that contain the selected expression or derivatives in the Concordance tab. In the source segments, the search string is highlighted with a yellow background. The Concordance search can also be carried out in the target language. To do this select a string in the target language and press F3.

Tracking the Translation ProgressYou can track the progress of your work and see how much has already been done at any moment. When you edit or confirm a segment, the status of the document is updated in the status bar on the bottom of the application window. The status bar indicates the percentage of words in the text that have not yet been translated (159 words/59,77%), that are in draft status (82/30,83%), and that have been confirmed (25/9,40%).

Saving the translated document1. Select the menu command File -> Save.2. This opens the Save As dialog box. In the text field File name the suggested file name is Landscape Convention 1 en.doc_en-GB_ro-RO. (The actual name depends on your source/target language combination, as the language pair is appended to the original document name.3. Click the Save button to save the document.Saving the translated documentSave to save TT during translationSave source as to save ST separatelySave target as to save TT in the necessary format after you finished the translationSave all to save both ST and TT as well as project if any.
