Toggle Switches A toggle, when pressed or clicked, causes the
computer to switch from one setting to another. Bold, Italic, and Underline commands are
toggles. Another toggle command is the Show/Hide
feature. When active, the formatting applied to adocument is revealed.
Located in the Paragraph group on the Hometab, non-printing format marks appear when it isactive. This slide shows the formatting marks forthis document when the Show/Hide feature ison. 12
Customize Word Word is a full-featured word processing application
and it can be customized to meet the needs of theuser.
You can add or remove features from the documentwindow. You can add commands to the Quick AccessToolbar, and you can customize how documents aresaved.
There are ten categories of customization choices youcan make.
To modify the Word options, click the File tab and thenclick Options. The Word Options dialog box displaysthe categories. Click on each to see the descriptionand review the settings. 18
You can remove a document from compatibility mode byconverting it to Word 2010. Click the File tab, and then clickConvert. The file will be converted, but it will still display the .docextension until you save the file. After making it compatible, youcan use all of the features of Word 2010.
If you will be sending a document tosomeone who does not have Word2010, it is a good idea to check forthe use of features not supported byprevious Word versions. Click theFile tab, click Check for Issues, andthen click Check Compatibility.
If the document contains anything that cannot be opened in adifferent version of Word, it will be listed in the dialog box. Makecorrections to the items listed in the dialog box before saving againand sending the file.

The AutoRecoveractions are set on theFile tab. Click Options,and then Save, asshown here, to changethe length of timebetween AutoRecoversaves and the locationof the saved files.
An additional backupoption is shown on thenext slide.
Backup optionOne disadvantage is thatthis puts two copies ofevery file onto yourcomputer, possibly usingvaluable storage space.
The option to backup filesis not set by default.
Click the File tab, and then click Options. Click the Advanced tab andscroll down to the Save options. Select Always create backup copy, andthen click OK.
Document Inspector The Document Inspector checks for and removes
different kinds of hidden and personal information from adocument, for privacy or security reasons.
You should always save a copy of the original document,using a different file name, before running any Inspector.
Click the File tab, and then click Check for Issues. ClickInspect Document to open the Document Inspectordialog box, shown here. Select the types of content youwant to check and click Inspect. Word lists the resultsand enables you to choose whether to remove thecontent from the document.
If you wish to print theDocument Properties,click the File tab, andthen click Print. ClickPrint All Pages, clickDocument Properties,and then click Print.
