Distributed Loads

Distributed loads:- consists of the weight of materials supported directly or indirectly by the beam, or it may caused by wind or hydrostatic pressure.

Distributed Loads

It can be represented by plotting load w supported per unit length L. It is expressed as N/m or lb/ft.

Distributed Loads

- The direction of the intensity of the load is indicated by arrows shown on the load intensity diagram.

- This system of forces can be simplified to a single force W and its location x can be specified.

Distributed Loads

Hence, the magnitude of W is equal to the total area A under the curve.

Distributed Loads

Example 1:Determine the magnitude and location of the equivalent resultant force acting on the shaft.

Example 2:A beam supports a distributed load as shown. Determine the equivalent concentrated load and its location, and the reactions at the supports.

Centroid for Composite Bodies

Center of Gravity:- a point which locate the coordinate of the center

of gravity of a system of particle..

Centroid

Centroid:- a point which defines the geometric center of the object. It is independent of the body’s weight and dependent on the bodies geometry
