Like + Gerund Part 1We have learnt that if a regular verb is followed by an infinitive, we must put 'to' in between the twoverbs.For example:You need to have a shower.
If the 1st verb expresses an opinion or wish, we can also form the gerund ('-ing') with the 2nd verb andomit 'to'.
Examples:
I like to sing. I like singing.
We love to study. We love studying.
They hate to read. They hate reading.
Like + Gerund Part 2There are exceptions to the like +ing rule.
The verb 'enjoy' (which means to take pleasure in something) must always be followed by the gerund.
Examples:
> I enjoy swimming.
> He enjoys reading.
> They enjoy riding their bikes.
When using 'prefer' we usually make a comparison.Here we can use two gerunds separated by 'to'.
Do you prefer dancing to sailing?We prefer eating to cooking.

Basic ComparativesComparative adjectives are used to compare the difference between 2 nouns.My house is cleaner than your house.My father is older than yours.
To make a regular adjective of one syllable comparative, we add '-er'.
